I can't stand any of the DJ's on radio 1 so guess what, I don't listen to radio 1.

Just put a CD in or switch channels if you don't want to listen to what's on.

You wouldn't go to a restaurant and order food that you know you don't like and complain whilst eating it!
I love the irony of this post.

He must have photographs or something.
Churns out the same stuff he did 25 years ago, surprised he hasnt dug up Mr Spoons.

About the whole - "if you dont like it switch off" , well yes, there is that, but its licence fee money that funds this st, pays stupid wages to blokes like Evans ( his show is pretty much unbearable and I look forward to his holidays so I can tune in listen to more than the 20 tracks available on Heart between ads) who really have had their day in the spotlight.

Someone please enlighten me on the age demographic that R2 is aimed at? R2 needs a major revamp, who listens to sounds of the 60's? Sunday Love songs? Even thats pre recorded. Craig Charles is a breath of fresh air that was desperately needed. It needs to be more - in fact ought to be - swapped with 6M.

..erm, we are talking about Radio 2....
Yes I did notice that, thanks.

I'm suggesting that people who dislike something should avoid it, just like I do with radio 1.

Monday to Friday I reckon it's people who are at work with the radio on, at least from Evans to Mayo. Fairly inoffensive and easy listening overall.

Saturday and Sunday I've no real idea, retired people?

I would've thought those who work are more likely to listen to him at the weekend than weekdays. I occasionally listen to him during the week purely because the radio in my bathroom is stuck onR2. I wouldn't go out of my way to tune into his show, which as others have said does have some decent music, but that's about it.

With me it was the old boys who were 60 plus but the other options was kiss fm or something else 4 da yout. I would carry a small Bluetooth speaker around with me.

It got to a point that when they played “islands in the stream” I imagined myself gunning down the old guys before storming the Radio 2 studios. It was probably a factor in me putting in to be sent to another area.

I’ve mentioned it before that “Serious Jocking” on a Friday afternoon isn’t too bad. It’s just him playing quite a few decent songs from the 80/90/00s with minimal chatter/st jingles.

He's all right old Steve, you know what you're going to get. And he has Barry from Watford which is a good thing.

My Radio 2 recipe would be no Jeremy Vine and more Sara Cox. She's funny.

As the OP on this thread, I feel a lot of you are missing my original point:-

Throughout the week Steve Wright goes on "Don't forget Friday it's Serious jockin' (No G remember"), he probably mentions it six or seven times but:-

What is the difference between this and his usual show?

I could understand it if he played exclusively rock music, classical or motown etc on the feature, but the music seems to be the same stuff as what he plays before 4.15 pm.

After having to change my place of work for a few weeks and have Radio 2 inflicted on me all day, every day I really can't understand why people still listen to Radio 2 during the day at all.
It's like it's stuck in the 80's or something. It's meant to be non commercial, yet every show has constant plugs for the guests latest products, they have the same playlist and record of the week that get played on every show . It reminds me Heart radio, who seem to be only able to play about seven records a day on a constant loop.

It’s the baby boomers. Hence all the 60s songs etc. If you are a mere middle aged strippling like me, 6M is aimed at you. Problem I have is, the lack of digital radio in my car!

The answer is in your post. The demographic they are playing/appealing to are those that were teens or twenty somethings in the eighties. Hence the music fits the audience they are aiming for.

Personally I love the eighties music and for me the majority of Radio 2's content is spot on (with the exception of Evans and Vine but that's more down to the presenters than the content)

Just how I see it though I don't mind Evans.

Theres no sliding scale of the age of the music played. Sitting in the car this morning I heard Barry Humpfires going on about the music he loved as a kid. Barry Humphries, 83, given a show on a channel that "ought" to cater for the late 20's to 60 year olds (my opinion). Stuff like that should be Radio 4, not 2.
Steve Wright is where he is because its lazy programming. His playlist, style of interviewing, factoids, condescending manner all wreak of a self important prick put on a publicly funded pedestal. There are far far funnier DJs on commercial stations, for example Heart sussex has 3 presenters Tom Nicola and Jack, it actually sounds a fun place to be when they are on air. Just a shame about the playlist....

The "Unique way the BBC is funded" means screw you, we will pay above the odds for marmite presenters. When Wogan died there must have been silence in the programming office, the best presenter they ever had. While Im moaning, the way they treated Tony Blackburn when he spoke out was disgraceful.

And I expect the stuff that you like is hated by others of the same demographic.

Thats the beauty of freedom of choice. You can choose to listen to something else. As they say, you can't please all of the people all of the time.
