I was subjected to his The Big Show and its hideous theme for years, and it made my teeth itch. He seemed an integral part of the working day - even a bit comfortable. I won't miss the crawling obsequiousness of his idiot crew though. The overwhelming response from people who knew him is one of genuine sadness and by all accounts he was a very nice bloke. Sad, and shocking.
This. Used to swear at the radio when it was on. And then there was Scott Mills. If ever the saying 'be careful what you wish for' was more prescient. I feel genuinely sad about Steve Wright.

You probably meant "irreverant", no doubt SW would smile at that one.
Go on then, in the absence of anybody else doing it – you probably meant 'irreverent'.

You know, it’s sadder and more touching than I expected.

I guess my greatest memory is the late, dark months of 1981. I had a driving job, and I have fond memories of SW in the times approaching Christmas, a time when romance was still in my life.

Although I didn’t like it at the time, he seemed to play this every hour… he obviously didn’t.

Thanks for the memories Wrighty.

I think there was a fair amount of Dave Lee Travis in there, too, which apparently pissed him off royally!

Talk of Alan Freeman reminds me that R4 'Great Lives ' series featured Fluff in the last couple of weeks. He was the soundtrack to my teenage years and the programme was fascinating . On BBC Sounds .

I thought we'd be hearing this view before very long.

I guess it didn't help, but he still had Sunday love songs and I saw RS were planning an R2 Extra station that he was to be involved with. Although, I have heard of people that lived to work and then as soon as they start to wind down, they keel over.
