Ships are not democracies, never have been and never will be for very good reasons.

Group therapy discussion won’t cut it, survival comes before trying to make the guy realise he is the problem.
Bligh definitely would not have tolerated the guy and in those days he was Master before God.

In this 21st century situation telling him he would not be joining the rest on the onward journey would have sent a signal to the rest of the crew that any one not playing as part of the team would suffer consequences.
Consequences control behaviour more than any other factor, be those consequences real or perceived.

Yet at the same time in Blighs era, he had been at sea with them for 18 months(?) and possibly longer should they have sailed together before, so the crew had time to 'respect' him (obviously it didnt work out well). This time they stick a bunch of randoms who may have had a brief period of time beforehand to get to know one another and quickly learn personality traits.

Chris clearly has a problem with authority. The 'arm around the shoulder' approach didn't work on the first island where he was asked to gather fire wood and ended up di*king around diving off the rocks. Ant was right to try a firmer approach shouting him down. Ultimately it was the rest of the crew who wanted him off giving Ant the big dilemma.

I'm really enjoying the program despite any historic inaccuracies thumbup

Good show & a good idea. Disappointed about the massive mother ship being 3km away, with all that backup stuff, but I guess that's the only way to make TV today. I hope its as genuine as they are making out, & that they're not bunking off to the mother ship every now & then for a warm shower, decent food, facebook etc. The scouse tt I think must be playing up for TV: not even scousers can be that annoying, surely? There must have been some sort of vetting procedure for candidates, & there is no way this could have slipped through the net.
I remember seeing a documentary about David Attenbourough's TV career recently: he hitched a ride on some absolutely knackered old boat & made it to Komodo Island to see the lizards. No support crew whatsoever - nothing. Those were the days!

Chris, the plant? (def a plank), started crying when Ant shouted at him biggrin He needed a short sharp shock. Fair play to Ant for being as diplomatic as he has been.

He seems to be genuinely dismayed at times with how little the guys will do without being spoon fed. Yes, leave them to get their gear wet and teach the buggers a lesson! I have similarly lazy beings to deal with in my softball league. Bloody hopeless!

Finding it quite enjoyable, shame the carpenter went as he seemed to be determined to get something out of it after his pep talk.

Sod the trench hand though!

They're getting ulcers and sores from the sea water and they've got modern waterproof jackets. Bligh and his men would have been in woollen clothes - must have been very uncomfortable for them.

would or could you have got used to it over time though? If they where hardened sailors, would the body toughen up as such?

They have, what, 9 men in the boat?

Bligh had 19 men in the same space.

I would have stayed with the mutineers!

We are seeing Ant develop his management skills I guess. Used to dealing with soldiers rather than civilians. I think he has been doing a good job with what he is doing though.

Not sure if Chris is a plant or been told to be a dick by the TV producers to increase the drama though. Guess we have to persevere with him though considering Ben had to go home. Shame.

Cant see how a character like chris would have cast himself off from the mutineers considering his selfish behaviour.

I'd also quite like to live on that island.

No wi-fi or 4G...too far for Ocado...boringly simple weather forecasts most days...no frosty mornings or snow...abundant flora and fauna with water source too...

Sounds like hell. Where do I sign up?

Good second episode.

How would you deal with the moaning scouser Chris?

I think I would take him, and make him helm or navigate. Give him some responsibility. Both are areas where he should be strong, having his own boat. Then he would be seen as contributing. Win win, or recipe for disaster?

Even though it is a small boat a quick "keel Haul" would sort his poor attitude out. He has to be some sort of plant or Actor.
I was speaking to a lad in our boat yard and asked him if he watched it and if he knew the story of the Bounty "No" he said its a funny old world .
Looking forward to the next episode.

Why the hell are they trying to eat ship's biscuits dry? I know water will be rationed, but soak them ffs, ends up a bit like weetabix and not a tooth cracker.

Plus 18th century sailors probably didn't have many teeth. How did they manage - did the weevils make them softer?

You have two weevils on your biscuit. One slightly larger than the other. Which one do you choose?
