To be fair, you saw his public persona. He might be totally different when at work, surrounded by people he knows well.

(I still think hes a cock though.)
I was the only person he didn’t know as I was with people who worked with him. I could see they all seemed to think he was a cock too!

I'd forgotten I'd posted that.

I stand by it though - if Mike's beef is that Edd got too big for his boots and that he (Edd) saw himself more as a presenter now and that he didn't see why he had to do so much off-camera spannering, then I would say it was a fair assumption on Edd's part. I very much doubt Mike is doing the off-camera researching on the cars and parts these days, so it's unreasonable to expect Edd to continue to do the off-camera spannering.

There has evidently been a falling-out over this.

I'm surprised that with Edd going, they didn't take Wheeler Dealers in a new direction of merging it with Trading Up, and having Mike continue to do his "wheeler dealing" with a small team of mechanics back at the shop. It would introduce a little bit of Fast 'n Loud into the mix too, which I'm sure Mike would have lapped up - I bet he sees himself as the British Richard Rawlings anyway. biggrin

Edd is back with actual proper Edd type content! Yes it is sponsored, but it is hardly intrusive, and isn't a cringefest like the other stuff.

So... he's gone from dogsbody mechanic on the world's biggest car show and making hundreds of thousands... to a dogsbody mechanic on a niche YT channel struggling to make ends meet...

You couldn't make it up.

Sometimes decisions don't work out. Look at Alonso leaving Ferrari for McLaren, for example.

Gambles don't always pay off. You make your choices and accept the consequences.

If Edd wasn't happy doing the show anymore (and TBH the whole thing was doomed as soon as Mike picked up a spanner IMO) then it's not unreasonable for him to leave and try something else that he does enjoy.

Unless you're saying that money is always the most important consideration and that he should have just sucked it up?

Maybe that after what 14 years doing wd he just got feed up I don't think he was truly happy over in the USA and this type of things always happens. Just look at f&l with AK. I'm sure just like ak he made his money is pretty comfortable right now and back doing things he wants to do rather being told what to do.

For me personally that was the most enjoyable/interesting/educational part of Wheeler Dealers. Whilst Mike is OK his "bits" (the buying and selling) seemed very artificial and pretty pointless given that the selling price never accounted for labour.

Covered countless times ITS A TV SHOW - car shows to the vast majorityvare as boring as watching paint dry. Good for them in getting some good viewing numbers consistently.

34,000 views in 1 day isn't to be sniffed at, and he'll be paid very nicely by the sponsors. If it is anything like sportsmen/women, comedians and so on, it isn't the headline job that actually generates the money, it is the paid 1-offs doing shop openings, after dinner speeches etc. They only do TV gameshows, IACGMOOH etc for the publicity to keep their public profile up.

i noticed he called it educated: 1 or something.

hopefully he does various things, if paid by sponsors etc which wasnt intrusive, Didnt really notice who it was sponsored by untill it came to fitting discs etc.
so doing various jobs with similar sponsors could be good.

Tub of Lard, TOL, as Brewer should be known henceforth, really should get his story straight.

In the presentation with Ant, TOL insists that nobody pushed Edd to go and that the show format will be exactly the same as current, 25% him and 75% Edd.

In the interview where he slags Edd off, TOL says that Discovery offered Edd the option to leave, which he took.

TOL/Ant interview was also full of TOL dissing Edd with various comments that could be taken 2 ways.

All through this crap, Edd has taken the high ground position and been totally professional, even in the face of TOL suggesting he'd got too big for his boots. Edd even made an appeal for people to calm down and lay off TOL and his family.

I know who comes out of this with their reputation intact..........and it ain't TOL.

Is there any need to make personal insults?

Agreed, no need at all.

Although Edd's section on WD was more enjoyable for me, i didn't mind Mikes contribution at all.

Surely no one watches WD who isn't into cars? Ergo, the vast majority of the public don't watch WD

Interesting how Mike talks Ant up as a mechanic, he is an ex armed policeman. And a damn good presenter. Those are big boots to fill, Ant does a great job. They have both moved on, but Mike keeps kicking the boot in.

The new series of WD is really very good. Ant is a truly talented mechanic, whereas Edd is most at home fillering over rust and bodging to sell on. Anyone could do what Edd does (which was the point of the show), I don't think you can say the same of Ant.

What sort of cars are they doing? I assumed that with Ant chosen they would be reflecting that the much higher price of 'classic' cars in today's market means the show needed to shift from the basic 'doing up' stuff that Edd was doing to more in depth restoration work?

On a different note, I can envisage a future break down in the new coupling due to Ant transporting to be more desirable eye candy and the producers wanting to give him more airtime so as to gain more eyeballs? It does have the ingredients for a dance off.
