My contribution is a film called Ninja Kids - The Phantom Force.

It's the most cheesy, corny, horrendously dubbed film I've ever seen but it takes me back to being 6 years old again when I first saw it and loved it ever since biggrin

Here it is in all its glory!

The special effects (external shots) on Firefox is pretty bad, I think they missed off any ground shadows when there should have been and the lighting differences between model and background. But the cockpit special effects are good for the period, such as the reflections in the helmet visors.

the special effects should not make or break a film, more so if the effects were the norm at the time of filming. If the story is good and characters are believable/act well, I don't mind dated effects. A case in point would be the 1981 Clash of the Titans, laughable effects by today's standards, but the film has a lot of heart and we all still enjoy watching it, despite the flaws. In fact, for a lot of today's films, the reverse is true, great effects, but very little else.

Sucker Punch

Vague plot that thinks it's cleverer than it is, no sense of pace or rythm to the film, lots of dud scenes and I can't quite work out if it's very misogynistic or not.

But

The action scenes and the visuals in them are some of the best I've ever seen (at least to my eyes).
Plus the soundtrack selection is near-on perfect.

Escape from L.A. is literally the same story as Escape from New York.

I wrote a dual-synopsis for the two once but it was on my old Facebook profile that I closed down.

I'll see if I can re-write it.

It's a good film. The Cold War stuff works. Eastwood does a solid job as a PTSD survivor. And the idea that the Soviets might have radar invisible fighter plane with thought interface was credible at the time. Well, I thought so anyway.
At the time I think it was weighed down by the expectation that it should have been something it's not.
I too am a fan of Firefox, a phalanx of great actors.
Stealth tech was old hat, and the idea that thought could be used was popular, anyone remember the old NES gadget?

Lots of love for Kevin & Perry Go Large here too. I've got a late 40's mate who still DJ's, I often say "can I carry your records Eyeball Paul?" in a Perry-esque voice!

Personal favorite crap film is Deuce Bigalow Male Gigolo, an all time crap classic.

It is the exact same film, yet somehow far worse (see also Blues Brothers 2000) with some of the most dreadful CGI ever seen in a major release. The Sega Saturn would be embarrassed by this scene

Escape From New York is a classic, LA is terrible though. It's just an inferior retread of the first film, with some of the worst special effects ever seen
I was at Mark Kermode's show at the BFI on Monday and Greg Proops nominated this as his guilty pleasure. They showed the scene where Kurt and Fonda surfed the tsunami wave and Kurt jumped into the back of Buscemi's Cadillac - if that isn't a nominee for worst special effects I don't know what is.

My favourite is the intro sequence - a 2:49 the building is completely flat, they didn't even create another side to it.

I love Carpenter's early work, but he went downhill badly (although Ghosts of Mars is kindof a guilty pleasure)
