Yeah, if Luke felt that Kylo was somehow darker than vader despite obviously being conflicted and insecure, then he'd crap himself if he met Hux.

Not some smug smile for him, he practically orgasms as he personally orders the death of billions. That is a man with some hate.

I hope he survives Kylo and the last of the sequels, he's a truly driven baddie.

I thought Hux was excellent in TFA- an actual glove-wearing signed up fascist and a great rival to Kylo who started out pretty menacing himself before his insecurities became apparent. As the film carried on, Hux was building up some top brownie points with the boss.

I'm not a huge JJ fan, but he'd set up a good movie with some good rivalries. TLJ looks like it was set up sust so the sequel would be even worse.

Hux in TFA:

Yes he was much better in TFA so a very bizarre decision to turn him from an evil little bd into Dick Dastardly. They also turned the humour up about 10 notches at the same time. Was this really the plan all along or somewhere between TFA and this, did Kennedy\Johnson think, you know what was really missing from TFA, we just didn't Disney-fy it enough.

Agreed. Ruining Hux set a massively bad tone for me so early in the movie. I felt it was one thing TFA got bang on, a genuinely angry and devout evil bd.

In TLJ they still could have had Kylo get the upper hand on him without the bad humour. Hold jokes and getting slapped about in the AT:AT? No. Getting force choked and being in fear of Kylo? Fair enough. In fact, resentment of Kylo for being physically stronger could have been a great driving force for Hux to do some cool st in the next movie. Doubt it though.

This all said, what's done is done. TLJ was utter crap for no reason and destroyed the signs of promise that TFA showed. I'm not particularly enthusiastic about seeing what they do next anymore.

As someone on here said previously, if they dont care about the franchise, why should I?

Jesus that's crazy.
Summer blockbuster films now monthly!
This year the fatigue will surely hit hard
Jurassic world coming out when it does is a shot across Disneys bows
I still don't see Disney losing top spot
My prediction is Infinity war is the biggest MCU film to date
Disney will have a mega year for sure, I just don't think Star Wars is going to be the one to do it for them. Solo has zero breathing room in the schedule with Deadpool 2 and Jurassic World both out within 13 days of it.

Disney 2018:

Black Panther
Solo
Wreck It Ralph 2
A Wrinkle in Time
Avengers Infinity War
And Man and the Wasp
Mary Poppins
Incredibles 2

Apparently, TLJ has been pulled from all cinemas in China, after only a little under two-week run, following disappointing BO sales.

I note AOTC and ROTS have higher scores on IMDB now..

I think we'll have a musical number in the next film just to Disneyfy it completely...

A lot of that has been left up to the Books and Comics. Bloodline tells the story of how the First Order began to take over the Republic Senate. Its more about politics than space battles, but is a good read.

The problem with having to rely on books and comics for filling in plot holes and stuff that makes little sense is that the majority, vast majority of cinema goers would not dream about buying these things.

In any case, isn't the latest film an attempt to please everyone at the expense of the die-hard fans, the very people who would be nuts enough to buy the books and comics?

Tbh honest Star Wars already has great form in this regard. wink

Maybe Disney decided the Christmas special was the pinnacle they should be aiming for. biggrin

I read aftermath, probably need to read it again along with the others. I just think the franchise would have been better if the new republic were doing OK and the first order rose initially out of terrorism, gaining support and finally having enough support to rebuild it's fleet etc. Lets be honest, most people don't read the books (I'm a bit of a Star Wars nerd, but haven't read a Star Wars book for years (despite reading quite a bit).

I bought Aftermath and TFA novel with an intention to reading them a year ago, but my list of books to get through it large, I'm gonna sell them on now, since I see no reason to read them

Some of those titles I had no idea were happening, and Mary POppin in particular made me wince. It seems it will be based on the literary works...so it may not be a catastrophe
I love Wreck-It Ralph, but I see no need for a sequel, I wanted a sequel for the INcredibles for such a long time, it's a near perfect film, so I hope it lives up to expectations.
Had to look up Wrinkle, and of course, I'll watch Infinity, but I have this sneaking feeling I'll come out of it feeling it will be lazy and formulaic, with too many jokes destroying any emotional scenes, I hope I'm wrong and Marvel is daring

I'd forgotten about that outstanding piece of televisual magic... Still better than TLJ IMO. wink

It is interesting that there's a lot of talk that it tanked in China as the audience is primarily young with no knowledge of the prior films.

I.e., as a standalone film, it's absolutely fking garbage. If you don't know the characters you aren't given even the slightest bit of help to empathise with them so you simply don't give a st if they die or not. You don't really have the slightest clue about anybody's motivations or why some people are chewing the scenery and some people are blatantly withholding important information from their own buddies.

As someone with fond memories of the original trio of films and an abiding hatred for the prequels, I at least knew what was going on. And fundamentally disagreed with most of the choices made.

So you have 3 types of audiences:

1. Fans - fk you, we'll burn your heroes and your history with the saga because fk you
2. Newbies - fk you, we won't introduce anybody properly or give reasons for anything because fk you
and
3. Film critics - fk you, here's a massive bribe because We're. fking. Disney.

Not sure I'm really getting the hatred for this film? Saw it last night and although i'm not really the target audience or believe that The Force could be the basis of a real religion, I found it really enjoyable.

Bad stuff first;

1.) The casino planet and its entire sub plot.
2.) The De Toro character.
3.) The whole running away from the bad guys/running out of fuel plan. Seemed a bit Battlestar to me.
4.) The bombs that work in zero g.
5.) The death toll. When you think about it a LOT of people died.

Good stuff;
1.) Some proper humour at long last. Star Wars has been far too pompous for too long.
2.) Use of some of the old characters as cameos only. C3PO was bloody irritating in the original and this was first Star Wars movie where both him and R2 where used sparingly.
3.) I actually quite liked the stupid CG birds.
4.) Mark Hamill was very good.
5.) The special effects were awesome as always. The silent ship explosion was a great idea.
6.) Adrian Edmonson. Apparently the director was a huge Bottom fan and just asked him if he wanted to be in it.

Ok it was a bit long but I honestly thought it was a pretty damn good. One of the only Star Wars films I'd be happy to see again.

I thought it was contrived slapstick stuff. Sure, the prequels were a bit pompous, but TFA did a good job with the humour.

You're right in that the special effects were nice. No problems for me there.

This ^^^^. The main "plot" of the film is so laughably bad, it would have taken a very decent film to recover from it's sheer stupidity, unfortunately it's not a decent film.

It's like someone thought "I know, we had an extended space chase in Empire, lets use the same plot for TLJ" except the chase in Empire was logical, the hyperdrive on the Millennium Falcon failed which fits in perfectly with it's standing as the fastest hunk of junk in the Galaxy, the best they could come up with for TLJ is "we are running out of fuel but our ships are slightly faster". roflrofl

As stated previously I can think of half a dozen ways that scenario just doesn't work or could be ended in five minutes.
