It's seeded in Star Wars as well; she shows unusual resistance in denying the mind probe, takes charge and leads them out of a firefight, and also, obviously being so accomplished as a politician/diplomat at such a young age.

To be honest I would have barely noticed the feminist message if people didn't keep going on about it.

I do find absurdly competent heroes who never fail a bit dull though regardless of gender.... and I'm not sure giving girls another load of impossible standards to live up to is doing feminism right....

I have heard a surprising amount of frankly tin hatted bks pertaining to Star Wars films lately. That they're anti Trump, pro woman, anti men, pro ethnic minorities and that Disney are deliberately trying to sabotage their own IP. This what I mean by conspiracy theory.
Never really equating the Force with any gender characterisation.
I never got 'The Force is Female' myself, do these people not realise by beating people over the head with a blunt stick - repeatedly, the message is lost and usually despised as a result.

Is the Force only for girls now? given how Disney seemed to have truly screwed up the franchise, it's looking more like the Force isn't for anyone anymore.
It's is the worst kind of sexist. Imagine if men wore The Force is Male t-shirts. And also typically goldfish memory feminista inclusive, conveniently forgetting the fully fledged female Jedi in the prequels of which there were many and of course Leia discovering her ability in the original, sensing Luke at Cloud City.
Pineapple chunks anyone?

Remember when the OT made people (kids mainly) believe that ANYONE could feel the Force, that it was all encompassing and not based on a single gender or age or skin colour. Imagine, as a multi-billion dollar company, you are so rich and that you are so confident in yourself that you can deliberately alienate 50% of the world by allowing the head of one of your best earners to tell every single male fan "fk You, You're Not Star Wars Anymore!!!"

A few years later and we can see how well thats gone yet KK is still there - LOL!!!!

Finally got round to seeing The Last Jedi. Almost gave up in the first few minutes with the slow flying unprotected space bombers and their space gravity bombs. Stayed the course to see if it got better, but it didn't. Such a poor film, RIP Star Wars.

We watched the Ivan Ortega re-edit of The Last Jedi last night and what a massive improvement over the original given the limitations of the source material. So much more Star Wars in feel and so much more respect for the original characters (including Admiral Ackbar).

It's not quite the final version (he still has the Luke v Kylo fight to film and edit in) but even so, I'm very very impressed that someone working on it in their spare time at home could turn around the mess of the original version so well.

JUst watched the trailer. It certainly feels like a SW film, something that the last jedi never did, from the opening scenes. Can you give a brief detail of what he actually does? Has he inserted new dialogue?

Off the top of my head without rewatching the original (because that way madness lies) or giving away spoilers:

There is some new dialogue for Luke and Admiral Ackbar.
He's removed all the clunky misplaced comedy so the First Order are no longer incompetent buffoons and battle scenes flow much much better.
Luke is no longer a sulky psychotic green milk drinking madman and his reasons for wanting to kill Kylo make much more sense. The Luke training Rey storyline also makes much more sense.
Canto Bight is heavily cut down.
Rose Tico is a much better character.

It's still 2h11m long including end credits, so despite having so much rubbish removed it's definitely not just a cut down version. There's some scenes that must've come from other sources such as Bluray extras etc. There's the occasional moment where it's obvious that he's had to stretch out a few seconds of a scene to make things fit but I think that's definitely understandable.

It's fairly amazing and a credit to the creative sorts of yt that some 'amateur' can come along and polish the turd into something that should have been the story in the first place.

What I found, not see the edit yet.

Ivan's sources: TLJ blu ray (including deleted scenes, TFA bluray (including deleted scenes), previous SW movie soundtracks
-He is editing several scenes.
-Deleting many scenes (most of Canto Bight).
-Adding music from previous SW movies
-Created a FULL TRAINING MONTAGE for Rey using deleted scenes and the intense trailer music. The montage shows a passage of time, where he cleverly edits in grass growing super fast...making it feel like she has been training for weeks.
-He edits out a lot of the lame jokes and replaces them with callbacks/quick shots that make the scenes more emotional

That sounds awesome then, I was very underwhelmed with the film, I'll look forward to seeing the completed edit. Though I'm surprised that Disney isn't suing, I know film companies like Paramount are less than impressed with fan edits of their stuff, maybe Disney don't mind so much.

This youtube also helps to show what he's done by showing some of the original scenes and his edits - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1gaw-yF0II

Just finished it, he's done a brilliant job. Definitely worth watching. I might even watch episode 9 now by bleaching the original abomination from my mind and remembering that as episode 8.

So we're all here moaning about films, and this guy just makes them better?

Does he do requests? smile
