It is used as a launch platform, if the battery goes down I think it automatically returns to its pad before running out of juice.

H is the marking used on an airfield for a rotary wing aircraft so I guess they use it for a drone too.

Drones will return to where they took off from if 'return to home' button is pressed, or as you say, they are getting low on juice. They don't need the 'H' at all, the drone geolocates to its starting position.- but very keen people use an 'H' presumably 'cos it came in the box. ;0)

Guessing it also stops a returning drone landing on someone's head

Depends how good the drone operator is! They'll always keep control of the drone and land it themselves, as despite all the collision avoidance tech on the drone, there's nothing beats the human eye. I take your point though. The 'H' might serve as a warning to others that there's a drone up. Though a bloke standing with a controller and a bright screen should give the game away. wink

smile I meant more in case of the auto return, but yes a chap with the controller should be a decent giveaway

This weeks first clip, I spoke with PC Mark White last week. In a Lidl carpark he was pulled up in a spot, with a Twizzy next to him, and a space the other side of that. I pulled in, had a good look around it (first seen) and his window was down. As I was looking at it he turned to me and said 'it's fantastic, ain't it?!' had a few minutes chatting about them with him, seemed a nice bloke.

Just had a question for those who are police drivers or trained whilst watching the latest traffic cops last night.

Appreciate you have more control in gear with the auto not changing unexpectedly but the Volvo XC90 was doing 125 down the motorways ovs in manual mode literally touching the redline with the dash saying 5 to 7 so must have been in manual mode.

Why would you not just put in atleast 6th as diesels dont tend to work as well at high revs I thought.

I wondered why he driving at those speeds when the perp had already wrapped his BMW around a tree and the other units were in attendance.

Aren't we forever being told that "speed kills" ?

What I'd like to know is, if a vehicle takes off and drives the wrong side of the roundabout why the police don't also do that? They go the correct way.

They sometimes follow it the wrong way, I think it depends on how many people are about.

Probably because they are not immune from prosecution. Imagine if they followed the wrong way round a roundabout and hit an innocent driver. Their career and liberty would be would probably be over. Blues and twos are not a shield.

I remember watching the east midlands ones attending a motorway job knocking on for 150mph chatting to the camera man and the incident was already well under control, I'm guessing it's because they can. Wouldnt we if we could get away with it and not be paying for fuel smile

Indeed. It’s the patronising comments that really annoy me. There’s a now retired Traffic Sgt in Devon & Cornwall who used to specialise in them

The main reason for using a launch pad is having a clean takeoff and landing point. It reduces airborne debris and keeps the props clear of grass and the such like. Not much of an issue with the modern smaller drones but the Inspire I have would really kick up cloud when taking off.
