I think this is to do with officers having their own private insurance policies for their own cars, and whether accidents or intentional "tactical contact" affects them.
Doh! Just re-read it and the context becomes clear now.

The car transporter guy, we could argue the rights and wrongs of the case forever, but. The eyewitness/informer knew an awful lot about his habits. " seen snorting coke through a £5 note". Definitely someone with a grudge.

I've seen Mondays episode now.

What a bunch of wasters!! I think all should have had a stint in prison, not just driving bans, community service & fines etc.

Yeah imo it would be better for blood pressure levels just to skip the final minutes of the show when the sentences are read out as they are just a joke now even compared with just a few years back.

Couldn't understand why the guy in the first clip going slow on the motorway then crashing the car seemed to have so many charges dropped.

I don't understand how much investigation was needed for the guy who came past at 140mph - it's on the police video, and there's a film crew, he pulled up and we saw him get out of the driver's side. Investigation over.

I also didn’t get the police officer’s reaction. He claimed he was wandering all over the road, it looked more like decent lane discipline to me, I know that is a very rare thing these days, but I’d hope a traffic copper would recognise it! Then there was the over reaction when he got him to stop, I’m not sure it was as dangerous as he was making it out to be, he only over took 3 or 4 other cars, there was nobody else around. And surely if it was that dangerous he should have aborted it?

+1 The police suddenly became very nice to him when they found that letter in his pocket so I guess he was deemed vulnerable ?!

I couldn't understand why the 140mph driver also wasn't charged for unfit having tested positive for drugs ?

As to the " going equipped " pair in the van -not enough evidence ?

I think it was either much earlier in this thread, or the Interceptors thread, where someone said that unless they physically get caught in the act, or with fully loaded drums containing fuel, the chances of getting charged is slim as they can claim the gear isn't theirs, etc.

I think in the case of the episode this week, the 2 in the van claimed they worked as / for a car servicing / breaker place when the Police first pulled them over, so they would probably just claim the fuel syphoning gear was used in line with that work if it ever went to court frown

And yet their mobile phone notifications showed people asking if they had any diesel….

I have to say it, this show basically shows that there is no deterrent for breaking the law.

So they just let the wanted Albanian chap go! They didn't even seem to check if his passenger was insured to drive the car. The driver won't be back working on a grow will he? Or maybe he's skipped the country? Who knows? They don't seem to. He was wanted by Humberside and the Albanian Police, so they let him go.

The chap going 140 mph in his Golf didn't seem to be going that fast and wasn't all over the road. A pathetic outcome for the speed.

The two chaps with the drums and equipment in the back of the van, dropped due to lack of evidence.. yeah the texts on their phone asking if they had any diesel for sale aren't incriminating are they?

The chap with the note, let off for no insurance on his grandads Corsa, what joker!

Not sure if it’s just me but on the Corsa, Golf AND van video. There was quite a long period of time where they were following with no blues. Can’t exactly call it a chase if they don’t turn the lights on.

Reminds me of a couple years back when I had similar and thought I was about to get car jacked so ‘ran’ got followed for ages with no lights until they suddenly went on and I got a telling off.

It did seem a particularly good week for suggesting being law abiding doesn’t matter.

If you're a car breaker and have to siphon out any fuel left in the vehicles you're breaking, then it seems reasonable that you would sell that, and therefore that people would phone up to see if you had any available, as it's not a regular reliable supply.

I’m going to suggest that they don’t have the correct equipment or permissions to store and sell fuel. They were thieves, that is clear on the balance of probabilities but sadly that isn’t enough.

The first chase with the bike that went wrong side of carriageway.

The first police vehicle abandoned it for the helicopter. They’re saying on the voiceover he will think he’s safe and wont hear the helicopter and what not. But not 5 seconds later on the helicopter footage as he goes round the roundabout. There’s a Police car following. So which is it. Have you abandoned or not.

I was waiting for them to punt off the motorcycle rider. Sadly disappointed.

I know this is a program dedicated to traffic, but given that the police say they never have any resources to do anything, it is amazing how much they can find when there is the potential of a pursuit involved…

Inconsistent editing, probably.
