I thought Episode 5 was brilliant -- really starting to like the robot character.

I thought Orville wuld be an out and out comedy, but from this RLM, seems Seth is a dyed in the wool die-hard uber fan

With stories lifted straight from STar Trek.
It does sound decent.
the above vid also compares the new star trek with orville

Catching up with this.
Just watched the baby episode, some brave social commentary in there.

I like it.

I think they'll be working harder to flesh out the characters and explore them more for the second series, which will be good. But already the series is more than just a comedy, it's something I'm actually want to watch for the sci-fi.

The jokes seem to have been turned down a little in the last couple of episodes. Well Ok, they're still higher than anything else but they worked ok for the most part. Episode 5 robot prank and retort? Funny, or at least I thought so, even if out of place. The whole ice cream bit in episode 4 was very reminiscent of TNG or Babylon 5 or something.

Rather pleased actually. On another matter, I sort of forgot about Star Trek discovery, worth returning to?

Depends on what your expectations are. I can take it or leave it now. Other than DS9 that's the only time I've said that about any Trek series.

Hmm, I'm four episodes in to ST:Disco. Magic mushroom drive? Which obviously doesn't work/has a fatal flaw as it's not in any of the subsequent series. The whole "jump in, jump out" thing is reminiscent of Battlestar Galactica (2000s version, not 1970s version). Jason Isaacs is pretty good though.

The magic mushroom drive is a far bigger joke than anything in the Orville!

Fantastic series. I watched Mad Idolatry last night, just brilliant. The game with Ed, Bortus and his mate was LOL.

Looking forward to the second series.

I really enjoyed Season 1 of this, and I haven't ever really watched Star Trek or Battlestar Galactica though I'm aware of some of them. Maybe I'll have to go back and watch some Patrick Stewart era star trek

It’s like The Orville, but with fewer knob gags.

I'm not convinced SNG has aged well, and looks a bit "meh" against the likes of The Orville and even BG reboot.

I have the new BR box set, which has the CGI and overall picture quality improved, and there are certainly a lot more hits than misses. It is the stories that are interesting, not the FX so much.

True that - watch it on dvd or the old reruns and it looks dated; the HD remasters look far better - like it was made yesterday. You could say the stories are far less gritty than one might get today but then it was made late 80s/early 90s... A bit like comparing Cannon with Chicago PD.
