I like it, I guess if you were going into it as a "funny Family Guy/American Dad" in space, your going to be disappointed. However as a Star Trek with humor is pretty good. I think you have to look at it as a space drama with comedy elements.

I've managed to line it up so that I've got a new Discovery and the latest Orville to watch on a Monday evening. That'll do for me biggrin

You worried this would be zany slapstick but I guess Seth worried he may catch a bullet from a misanthropic trekkie of which there must be many lol.

Well if you look at the viewing figures so far, Discovery has been a major success with over 10 million viewers in the first week in the US alone

All that tells us is that fans had to watch it to figure out that they hated it!! After all, how could they decide that they hated it if they hadn't watched it first?

If after six or so episodes it is still commanding high viewing figures, then it can be considered a success.

I'm still watching it but it's a strange mix for me.

Scenes of somebody getting kicked to death, torture and gender reassignment interspersed with knob gags and the like.

It's a strange mix for sure.

I only heard about The Orville because of the Discovery thread.
I keep thinking this feels like the show the characters in Galaxy Quest had starred in before they spent their lives attending fan conventions.

I have to agree. I thought it would be a comedy but, well, it’s not really. Some bits give a small chuckle, but no laugh out loud moments for me.

I’ll keep watching and see how it settles in.

Im sure the avid star trek fans can reference every scene to something from that series.
I like the low key humor. That bortus telling the captain there are no bars in his deadpan voice in the first ep is flippin hilarious.

Yeah, that’s what I said.
When Liam Neeson popped up in a previous cameo, I figured it was probably just 10 minutes work and he didn’t even need to turn up at the studio. But this was a full on guest starring appearance from someone who presumably has proper movies to work on.

Revisited after word of improvements... gawd... what a mess of tone this show is! Dumb jokes and slaughter... anyway, it's improved beyond the first episodes. Maybe ditch the humour entirely as it's so weak and do a decent dark sci fi show though!

Agreed, keep it as it is, its got legs, needs to find its feet still a little bit but I am enjoying it on the whole, cameos are cracking, Seth MacFarlane clearly has friends in high places, lets not forget he has worked with alot of big names before, how long before Mark Wahlberg turns up? hehe
