The actress who played Kelly suggested in a recent interview that The Orville was dead. The cast could only hang around waiting for so long and have moved on to other jobs now. "The thing with Seth is he always has his fingers in so many pies" or similar, so waiting around for a couple of years for Seth wasn't really likely to be do-able.
I don't think the delay was in Seth writing it was the network not renewing it straight away. They;'ve all said they wanted to do more, but you're right whatever the reason the more time that passes the less likely it is.

Started almost as a TNG parody, albeit an affectionate one (Macfarlane is a ST fan). Later seasons did get rather more serious. Still with humour in there but not quite so "played for laughs".

I enjoyed it a lot but I enjoy that humour. If you don't, and you don't rate Macfarlane, then you might just end up getting annoyed with it.
I really enjoy some Family Guy episodes but it easily becomes too much sometimes. SM also did American Dad which I can't see why anyone finds funny in the slightest. His humour is completely hit or miss for me.

Have you ever watched Star Trek Deep Space Nine? I gave up on it early on when it first came along but have watched it all in recent years and there are some excellent stories in there. It really just got better and better as time went by. I would almost say it ranks higher than TNG for me and I say that as a big TNG fan. If you can get through the inevitable early nonsense in season 1, it's excellent.
I did watch DS9 but I struggled to enjoy it. Too much hanging around in the bar with Quark. Too much Sisko raging. To much religious nonsense. To much wondering what the tailor knows or doesn't know. Too much not going anywhere. I didn't much care for the Dominion war storyline either. It's far too much drama and not enough sci-fi for me. I never watched it through and through. Unlike ST:TNG where there are only a few episodes I have to skip (mainly episodes that focus on Reg Barclay, Deanna, or that one where Dr. Crusher gets involved with the ghost), I found myself getting bored and skipping half of DS9. After TNG, Voyager is my next favourite. And I'm trying to force myself through TOS but every episode seems to revolve around a scantily-clad female who Kirk gets involved with. I hate them all.
I never saw Seth on screen in The Orville and thought much about Peter Griffin but I guess he can't help his voice. I love Family Guy but can't binge watch it. I just find an ep or 2 every so often. American Dad I never found funny though.

I only suggested DS9 as it's generally seen as the most well rounded and "adult" of the ST series. If you like Voyager and TNG then maybe Enterprise would be a suggestion - it is pretty much in the same mould, albeit set earlier. But again, most of season 1 wasn't too good (in common with most ST series). But really, all 3 of those series are updates on TOS. Without so many scantily clad love interests.

Thank goodness it's not Peter Griffin I'm hearing - rather Brian the dog. Yes I've also seen Enterprise from start to finish and didn't mind it too much but it never felt like Sci-fi in the way that TNG or Voyager did. And before you mention it I also saw the entirety of the other show whose name I can't remember. Spore drives and gay kissing in engineering. Parts of that were good but parts were complete tripe. Oh and I can't bear the Kelvin Universe Trek either. It's just action adventure and no sci-fi so it may as well be Star Wars vs Trek for me. And that's coming from someone who actually loved Aliens vs Predator!

Saw something this morning suggesting the show has been renewed for Season 4, let's wait and see if there's an official announcement soon.

That would be amazing, I am currently going through episodes again - when you jump about picking out your favourites its easier to see how it became a serious bonafide sci-fi especially in series 3 when some heart wrenching and hard hitting stuff happens. They stop all the boozing and larking around and move into proper sci-fi.

I've just completed series 2 and have started on series 3. Some really excellent sci-fi in series 2 - I hope series 3 is not going to entirely consist of battles between the Kaylon and the Federa....Union. So far I'm glad you guys convinced me to carry on past the first couple of episodes.

Saw the same "in the know" source quoted. Did say an official confirmation might be a while, what I saw.

I honestly can't remember lots of The Orville now, I'll have to do a rewatch. It never occurred to me that Dr Finn is the same actress who played Sisko's love interest on Deep Space Nine until I just looked them up. Doh.

The budget got a significant bump in Season 3 which was all the more reason everyone wanted it to continue once you see what they can do with more money. Glad you're enjoying it.
