I'll watch it without a doubt but the trailer doesn't get me awfully excited. I agree with the comment above about trying to shoehorn a series in to the current time line. Why not go 100 years after Voyager's return? We've already had brief visions of future ships including Enterprise. I'd probably stay away from time travel though.

I will miss the ship's computer Majel Barrett. Somehow anyone else won't be the same.
I preferred the ships computer from Andromeda!

Yep new Enterprise, new crew, set it 40 years after the last of the Voyager\DS9 timelines so you have some familiar elements but far enough forward so you can have new plots, new technology etc. I think it's what a lot of Trek fans have wanting for years and yet we seem to be stuck in a loop where we keep revisiting the same old timelines.
The problem is - every time they jump back, they have to update the technology to make it look more advanced than where we are now, but that in turn screws with the continuity of the original series - plus this propensity for prequel after prequel is getting a bit old hat now.

If there is an interesting story to be told (like Rogue One) then it's fair enough - but given we've already had a pre-TOS prequel already (Enterprise) - plus a reboot of the TOS timeline, i'm not sure what this new series is going to add.

I think they should either continue with the rebooted timeline and produce a series in TMP or TNG era - or jump forward past Voyager and explore the distant future of the federation.

How about "Neighbours" bit with Klingons?

"another bad day at the bat'leth plant dear?"

"Shut up Tard"

Is Andromeda worth watching? I've always seen it has Star Trek's poor cousin and not bothered.

Also if it was set 10 years before the 60's Kirk, would they not be sporting 50's dos?
Only if it was made in the 50's however I agree with your point. 10 years in reality could see big differences in fashion just as fashion changed dramatically from the 40's through to the 90's with each decade having very different looks.

Very good but ignore the last season. It is quite cheesy at times but enjoyable

Looks very good smile

P.S looks like they've ditched that weird looking Klingon-Federation hybrid ship designed on MS Paint they were planning to use.

I'm not sure they have. The ship featuring in the opening of the trailer is the USS Shenzhou, not the USS Discovery.

A ship that looks like the one in the original teaser can be seen going to warp at around 1:30

I reckon the characters serving on the USS Shenzhou will be a precursor to one of them being given command of the USS Discovery during the pilot episode.

Looking at the side view of the discovery you see in the trailer and Jason Isaacs taliking about a 'new way to fly'

i think the discovery is going to be a bit of the NX 01 enterprise flat style i.e. nacelles sort of in line with the saucer, but using TOS era saucer design shape and 1701 A nacelles but with the delta engineering hull all in line with each other.

This would lead into a larger hull being developed over time leading to the Kirk era 1701 design.

Also the discovery was a non used Ralph Mcquarrie design for the original enterprise or Phase 2 stuff that became the motion picture.

Still really happy its going to be on Netflix so can see it.

How about a series from the romulans point of view. There is alot of unused material there and could be some great plots with their sneaky ways.

Star Trek Discovery dropped their first two episodes on Netflix this morning and having blagged off work to watch them I have to say I am hooked.

First off the look and feel are very cinematic, they have spent some serious money here. The main characters put in very strong performances and the protagonists without giving anything away were badass. The nods to other Star Trek series were well done. If they can keep this up I think they could have a hit on their hands.
