Did that sound clever inside your head?

First Trek has done stories about alternate genders. Second, good SciFi often addresses issues of today.

I mean obviously they should get an alien symbiant pair to play an alien symbiant pair, durrr.
I guess that really sounded clever in your head (before it came out misspelled and a bit clumsy). No idea what you're trying to get at - I already said ST has done stories about other genders. You seem to be agreeing with me and at the same time trying to make out I'm stupid. Quite some feat. Have a nice day.

They've never made a big deal out of "3rd gender" or "gender neutral" characters before. They're doing so this time because they've specifically chosen someone identifying themselves as "non binary" to play a gender fluid character. The 2 aren't really comparable, given one is an alien made up of 2 beings, but hey...

Didnt know a symbiant had a gender, do they?

Enjoyed episode 3. If they remove the dramatic zoom outs and cuts to various token characters, get rid of the the Burnham ‘inspiring’ speeches, this could be an awesome season biggrin

Eps 3 - am i missing something but ....

I dont understand the whole premise of it, these "raiders" were humans living on titan, and they had a mistake of communications and one of the ships got shot down? but no one on earth recognised their ships, no one could they communicate with them?, yet we clearly see them communicate with Discovery and Humans, they decided to wear some weird helmets - why? Titans are almost dying yet they can run ships and repair them and fly to and from earth and raid ships - and they can teleport instantly between ships but cant teleport to earth and say "hi look we are humans we are you....please help us"
i just dont understand it all ..........

I suppose after the first 'friendly fire' incident they just thought Ef this we'll go a-raidin' instead and not bother with communication. Wars in our history have started over stupid stuff like this.

I see EDF have moved on a bit from just supplying gas and electricity.

Filler episode. Slow, over emotive and boring.

Quite enjoying it so far. More Star Trek than Picard managed to be, and some interesting ideas.
Same here. Back to basics seems to be working finally

Still the Michael show but better than season 2

Maybe it is just me - but I thought it was a cracker .... just setting up to the euphoria or shock at what Starfleet has become.

it is the Micheal show - the sad thing is that the supporting characters are way more interesting than her (Pike, Georgiou, Lorca) not to mention better acted. That being said 4 epi's in they do seem to have dialed down the Burnham

The (Not so) special effects are starting to grate a bit now. The CGI looks like it was made 15 years ago.

Storyline is also underwhelming for the playground it has at its disposal, the far future.

I nearly turned it off half way through tonights episode for the first time ever with a trek episode.

2/10 at best for me and I’ve had a drink so am feeling generous.

That was a pretty dull episode.

Not just you. It was a good episode.
It’s unusual to have a relatively low stakes episode, without a direct threat to the ship and crew. Instead focused on character and story, which I would have thought was a good thing.

Discovery is lost in a future with no home and no friends. They only have each other, so it makes sense to take a moment to emphasise this.
It actually reminded me of the TNG episode when Picard returned to France after being freed from the Borg.

The sort of episode you watch while doing something else. Plus, skipping through a bit - a minute here, a minute there, while the filler happens.

10 minutes of stuff to move the story forward, 45 minutes of meh.

The only interesting thing about this episode was it's tease of what is to become of the Discovery in the even further future as revealed in the Short Trek, Calypso.

https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Calypso_(epis...

This is where the ship is abandoned for centuries and only the AI remains (and it has evolved which is hinted at in this pretty mundane episode we've just watched) when a human soldier wakes up onboard. One of the best short treks, catch it if you can.

(Decided not to spoiler that as it's been out a while now).
