Looking forward to seeing this tonight. Apparently a lot of Star Trek "cannon" is ignored which has infuriated a lot of due hard trekkies. I'm a huge fan, but welcome change. To be fair I see this as a reboot as much as the recent films are.

Watched the first two episodes this am.

First impressions are very good, feel more like the reboot films with the look etc but I don't believe they are following that timeline.

Didn't get in to Enterprise so hoping this continues to develop.

Watched the first episode:

A very Dark, Cinematic, Original, Modern take on it.

They've reinvented the Klingons into an actual 'alien' race if you see what I mean.

JJ Abrahams films look dated and very childish by comparison and I don't see where they go from here.

Reminds me of when I first saw the Next Gen series having only seen the Original Series a quantum leap forward. Its also clearly informed/influenced by other ground breaking sci fi like Battlestar, The Expanse.

This is the Trek for today.

Enjoy.

Sounds promising. I found TNG ended up too much like Libtards in Space.

Just watched first two episodes, they still haven't figured how to fit seat belts in the seats on the bridge biggrin. But looking interesting.

Have we seen the USS Discovery yet - does it look better than the initial teaser suggested?

No, the discovery isnt in these ones, i assume next week.

Enjoyed them, and the wife who is a complete non star trek person quite liked it.

A departure to be sure from previous but i felt it worked well.

Superb production values, looking forward to see where it goes.

Just finished the first episode and thought it was excellent. Interaction between the main character and the science officer was a little cheesy but plenty of time and room for that to grow. Looking forward to episode two after the missus goes to bed later. Looks seriously big budget and the special effects and knocking on film quality really. Going to lose a lot of viewers in the US after the first episode as people are going to have to pay for a CBS All Access. Hope that doesn't affect its future.

One question - why is the very female main character called Michael? I'm called Michael and I always thought I had a boys name.

You don't live 400 years in the future, nor were raised by Vulcans either :-)

I think I watched a different episode to the rest of you!! No stand out characters, no chemistry between any of them, predictable story.

On the bright side, it can only get better (I hope)!!!

Haven't watched the second episode yet though.

Really enjoyed that.

There is a slight problem with a series set "ten years before Kirk" looking fifty years more modern but I cannot think how you get round that. If you produce a 60s Enterprise clone it will look instantly dated when it is supposed to be set in the distant future. I think they did what they had to with the communicators and Phasers looking like ToS models.

I won't post spoilers as I expect there will be a gradual uptake of this series. But if you like Sci Fi you should give it a go.

Recommended.

Hmm, disappointed with the pilot. I didn't "not like it" but it certainly feels a bit off. I can forgive it for not following cannon to a certain degree, and it looking way more technologically advanced than the Original Series despite being set before it. I'm however not sold on the first episode for the following reasons:

  • Acting more wooden than my cottage, particularly between the episodes two leads.
  • So much lenses flare.
  • Odd camera angles.. I kind of find it hard to follow.
  • It doesn't feel or look like Star Trek, if that makes sense. This feels very flashy and shiny, and all "look what we can do with our huge budget". It looks superb obviously but Star Trek should feel like Star Trek, this doesn't. But hey only one episode in, I'll see if I have a change of heart after the second one.
  • The title sequence is an abomination! Very Game Of Thrones like. Which works with that series, not so much with this.
A member earlier said this is "Star Trek for today" and I think he's right. Unfortunately Star Trek cannot be what it was with TNG.

I think a lot of people have forgotten what Star Trek was all about, especially anyone involved in recent films.

I'll reserve judgement on the series though, it very quickly dived into space battles and all out war sadly and I think while throwing a few photon torpedoes around was part of Star Trek it wasn't really the core part of what made it good.

It's got a way to go or come back to match TNG, Voyager and even Enterprise.

Will keep watching for now as it was still entertaining.

There were some shots and themes in it though that made me think someone involved is a Firefly or The Expanse fan.

I really enjoyed it but was very like a film with none stop action. I'm not sure how the series is going to go, as if it just carries on like this will there be the quieter side story episodes or will this whole series just be one long film.

Jesus the you tube reviews tying themselves in knots to not like it.

They are so desperate for it not to work and fail because its not exactly like ST from 20 years ago.

over all I thought it was good. Only real issue was I didn't really like the lead "Michael" thought she came off as a bit of a tt!
