The book pretty much left it open but with scope, I think they could have done a lot more with it this season.

I said to the wife, only this week, this series is really dull and it is...

Shame as this started out so well, but, while it was always a slow burner, it's turned into a damp squib...

If it doesn't pick up it'll be going the same was as Vikings and TWD for me soon...

Agreed, it's gone the way of V (for those of us of a certain age!): stunning opener, great visuals but now it's more of a soap opera about OfJoseph / OfFred / Offtothepub & the Waterfords. If I wanted misery with not much happening I'll just watch Nairo Quintana in Le Tour..

I blipped though a couple of them I had stacked up in my planner yesterday. It really is glacially paced now, but there are odd bits worth watching. The Washington DC parts in the most recent one were quite good.

laugh Agreed!

I was in the UK last week and saw a sign outside Waterstone's that the author's bringing out another linked book. Attwood only wrote the original, which became the 1st series, but remained as advisor or somesuch on the next series. This time aournd it's really going slowly ... I mean, June hasn't been seen to have been boffed by the new Commander whose house she's now in, which is the whole point of her being there, to make babies?

I think the whole point is that that Commander isn't interested, so it suits him, his wife and June to pretend its happening when it isn't.

I'm up to episode 6 of season 3. I was quite looking forward to it as I enjoyed the first two but there definitely seems to be a lot of filler in this series.
The Washington DC section is good. The mouth rings in the Handmaids there are very sinister.

I'm still watching, hoping something is going to happen ...
Watched last night. Handmaids being directly involved in hangings is a new one?
June's daughter will take some finding now the Commander and his fmaily have been secretly moved.
Nicole can't be sent back from Canada, eh?
Is Fred going to become the boyf of that Washington commander? He seemed a bit "close"...
They'll get stoned for that! yikes

Lots of close- ups of people staring into the middle distance. Does anybody switch any lights on, anywhere? Lots of whispering and hiding in corners, apart from that....

PS, The Handmaids Tail.? have not noticed one, so far.

Lots of close ups of Ofjoseph gurning, grinning, jaw flexing, staring moodily or looking angry. Getting a bit samey i'm ashamed to say.

Just watched episode 5, and we've decided that we're oot. Nothing's happening, and June's character is just getting annoyingly reckless. Season one and (to a slightly lesser extent) season two were compelling viewing, but this is boring. They should have ended season 2 properly and left it at that.

Just 'discovered ' this; I was aware of it but started watching season one on prime. Really good so far although we are only four episodes in. I'm not really into dystopian fiction but as we appear to be living in an alternate dystopian vision, perhaps I will change my mind. I'm sure it will get progressively worse as these things do (although we are still invested in "Blacklist' 7 seasons in and loved all of House, Sopranos and Better Call Saul, so we have staying power!), but will stick with it for now.

The actress who plays June is directing some of this new season. Been on last 4 weeks on sky.

Really - if so she’s adding to a cracking output.

Late to the party just watched the first couple of episodes and thought it was great.

Might need to watch something more cheerier alongside side it as it’s pretty grim!

Don’t spoil it

So many dystopian things you simply wouldn’t believe - it’s just so different and so good

It's such a believable scenario compared to some and well played out, even if grim/brutal/shocking at times.

Just seen the infamous scene, onto season 2 a few episodes in now, absolutely compelling viewing so far.
