Can't imagine why this 'average' Marvel film about the Black Panther starring a mainly black cast won two awards. Oh, there again...
I'd advise against reading the BAFTA Film eligibility criteria if this bothers you. There is a diversity clause...

Just took a look at that diversity clause. It seems backward to me and uncreative.

Yes, bks isn't it. Discrimination applied to creativity/art.

Finally got around to watching this. I was expecting better with all the hype.

The only memorable performance was by Andy Serkis. To kill off a main Black Panther character for no good reason was stupid. The film would've been much better with him as the main villain.

The final battle, rubbish. Fighting hand to hand with energy weapons?

One of the worst Marvel films.

Not just me then. It seemed like film making by committee

That brawl in the field is no doubt one of the laziest marvel climaxes. No doubt makes it easier to film in front of a green screen (taking lessons from Lucas perhaps). The rest of the movie though is better than Thor 2 or Avengers 2 so I would say middle ranking Marvel film.

Only a year behind, but I finally got around to watching it a week or so ago, too. It wasn't even the best superhero movie out least year, let alone a best picture candidate. I thought Ant Man and Wasp was much better than Black Panther. Avengers: Infinity War was also better and had a much grander scale.
