Because Evans and Zoe Ball's job is to play music and they know fk all about music and I think having worked in Air Studios, Abbey Road and Electric Lady in New York long before these cretins graced the airwaves I think I know what I'm talking about.
Wow. Maybe you should have the job. You sound great. If Evans did quit and they employed another of their cronies to take his place do you think the ratings for the breakfast show would drop? Of course not, they could employ someone on £200k which would be a huge saving on Evans salary, radio 1 is for kids, the commercial stations on a conventional car radio are crap, there's no alternative for most people, so why pay Evans all that money and squeal that money at the BBC is in short supply? I criticised the BBC on facebook on one of their pages and had their attack dogs on my case, when I did a bit of detective work they all lovely contracts with the BBC,they get annoyed anyone criticising their gravy train.

As I said way back on this thread having dealt with the BBC in recent years it is full of cronyism, they squeal there's no money in the kitty to employ Alex Lester so they give him the red card whilst paying Evans huge amounts.

Some of the previous posters on here defending these huge salaries need to get real, "...its market forces etc etc etc.... "
Surely a half articulate ex footballer could be found at A LOT LESS than Gary Lineker earns to lead Match of the Day - he's hardly insightful and you could have Ruby Wax present it and I doubt viewing figures would drop much as its the actual football most people watch it for anyway

I don't know why this is hard to grasp.
The BBC is a broadcasting corporation, not a LA or an NHS trust.
What makes good programmes? People. That's it.
How do you get them? Pay them. Or they'll go to a channel that does.
It's literally that simple.
Just because you don't like Alex Jones is irrelevant. It's a massively popular programme so they have to keep their talent.
Let them go to another channel (with investors/shareholders who may actually challenge the bottomless pit of these high earnings), and we can then scrap / cap the license fee (which you have to pay to use a TV)The BBC is a broadcasting corporation, not a LA or an NHS trust.

I'd suggest it sounds like you haven't got the faintest idea how broadcasting 'works'.

Why do you want the BBC to be a race to the bottom?
There are lots of good DJ's who would do Evans job for a fraction of his salary without the loss of listeners, bearing in mind it's the publics money I would call that common sense rather than a race to the bottom. Also what other broadcasting company is going to pay Evans £2.25 million for presenting a breakfast radio show? Raygun said:

With one or two exceptions, they are average - though not especially good - salaries for London professionals. I'm surprised they are t on more and assume that many top up with other work.
Huw Edwards 'overpaid' on £550k pa?! Get real; the guy is the key anchor for all BBC main TV news slots, covers all ceremonial/national significance broadcasts and produces documentary content galore - all for the same as a salaried partner in a reasonable sized London law firm.
What really annoys me is that the BBC pandered to the Daily Mail reading little englanders and published this.
Precisely. Good to know I wasn't the only one surprised at how little some were paid. Huw Edwards 'overpaid' on £550k pa?! Getting someone of Laura Keunssberg's quality for £250k is a cracking good deal.

90% of the posts continue to be "I don't like Alex Jones/ Evans/ Zoe Ball/ Charlie from Casualty et al and therefore they shouldn't get paid as much (if at all)."
This thread is the lowest point in critical thinking since the Paranormal thread in the Lounge.

Zoe Ball's dad was on the telly which may have helped her get started, but Evans came out of a working class estate in Warrington. How come he's where he is, and you, for all your knowledge, are, just like me, p1ssing your life away on a motoring forum arguing the toss about his salary?

I think I remember it being reported that Sophie Raworth gets about £150k a year, dunno why I remembered that or where I heard it but there you go, odd what the brain recalls at times!
Nineteen pages I've toiled through, hoping against hope for a photo of the very sexy Sophie and I get Vanessa Feltz!Just about sums my week up
P.S. I've nothing to contribute regarding the relative merits of various BBC newsreaders!

If the Beeb don't up the ante with her, she'll be on Sky or ITV soon for 4 times the money.

Well why aren't you gracing the airwaves on £2m a year then?

Obviously you didn't read my comment on cronyism at the BBC, if you've never dealt with them you wouldn't understand.Zoe Ball's dad was on the telly which may have helped her get started, but Evans came out of a working class estate in Warrington. I hear a gang of disgruntled BBC serving wenches are looking to sue the BBC for being unfair and really beastly with their pay deals.
One of them is a right minger in fact she looks so much like a bloke she should get the same anyway. I think she may have played guitar in a Led Zeppelin tribute band http://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/uknews/bbc-pay-10-fe...

Yes, because he's really struggled to find lucrative employment over the years
That didn't answer my question. Would Heart pay him £2.25 million to do a breakfast radio show?Jeremy Vine was paid £80,000 to appear at random intervals on the Scottish Independence Referendum night coverage and explain the results.
