Having not watched tele for a number of years now when I heard 'Derek Thompson' was on the gravy train my first thoughts were "and they're going behind at Kempton"

Biggest shock I got (as I thought that really there's no surprises with the usual crowd) was seeing what this wooden head of an actor gets...Derek Thompson from Casualty get's £350,000 + per year, I don't know how he's survived, as he's the most hopeless actor I've come across.., No wonder he's smiling.
!
Ironic that the state pays a man pretending to be a nurse 10 times what it pays a real nurse.

Do we have such a shortage of mediocre actors they command that sort of salary?

That didn't answer my question. Would Heart pay him £2.25 million to do a breakfast radio show?
Chris Evans isn't paid £2.25m for presenting a breakfast show though... That salary includes his Top Gear earnings.
No, he gets the money for the Breakfast Show. He got £1m for doing Top Gear and another £600k for Friday evenings on the One Show. So nearly £4m in totes.

Please try to stick to the facts.

If the salary of actors is to be somehow related to the actual salary of their character's job, then I think we can safely say Julia Roberts won't be making Pretty Woman 2 any time soon.

How much should we pay actors that play tramps, or drug addled street girls.

All of a sudden we're obsessed about low pay for public service workers.
Sound like a socialist workers meeting in here!

When you consider 99% of actors never land a big role, I'm willing to bet their average pay is less than that of a nurse.

I'm fairly confident the world would continue turning on its axis if Ken Bruce replaced Evans on the R2 breakfast show.

What do people think of Mel and Sue presenting The Generation Game and the effect that will have on audiences? My prediction is that it will do better with them presenting it than if they got some bloke from the pub to do it for £50 a night. Because people seem to like Mel and Sue.

I'd turn it straight off. can't stand them. But I can't stand Ant and Dec either - there is a vast amount of money for old rope.

People liked them on Bake Off, that doesn't mean they will do well on this show necessarily as the two are very different. Do you know if it was there idea to do it, or a case of BBC having nothing for them to do and giving them a gig.

The difficult bit is getting a job in that business.

I know a couple of sports presenters, one started in radio when at uni, the other started on a work experience/intern gig and went from there. So now both have c 20+ years experience, and seem very good at what they do.

One of them is on the beeb and is in the pay lists, the other is commercial TV so isn't. I would not be that surprised if the commercial TV one is paid higher.

It might seem easy, but the competition for the job is very high, and making it seem easy is very hard...;)

But do you think they will appeal to other people and provide their employer with good VFM?
