I thought:
a) Episode 1 - they were shooting the windows Die Hard-style to shatter glass everywhere to see if they could take some people out
b) Episode 2 - Rick and Daryl were looking for a gun - i.e. a bad ass weapon of some kind - unless I heard them incorrectly? I'm sure Rick said something about a weapon that would "clear the courtyard"...

I must be in a bit of a minority, I quite like the start to the new season... A little bit of background character plot and interest and then a lot of action, although some of the action does feel a little clumsy - almost A-Team like.. Zillions of bullets with no one getting shot.
I especially liked the part where the opposition team leader was questioning why they weren't advancing and then realised that her dead compatriots were re-animating and finishing them off from 'inside'.
The close ups at the start and the end was well thought out and constructed and I liked Morgan going crazy as well. These were obviously showing their respective journeys and how they arrived at the point in time that they did. Next week should be good - nice bit of tension building...

And thinking about it further, it's almost like they completely forgot to do any editing and just chucked the whole thing together in the order it was filmed, they literally forgot to put the scenes together in the correct order.

The guy with the Tiger and weird regal medieval accent is almost becoming Monty Python-esque, since the introduction of that character I thought, well this is just daft.
Ill keep watching while we are in the breaks of other shows but I will welcome the return of FTWD and at least Peaky Blinders starts again soon

I liked it too. People complain that the series becomes slow and monotonous and filler episodes blah blah blah... so far, it has been non-stop action.
Yes the series is formulaic, rinse & repeat blah blah. We've known that that since Series 2. The fact that people still complain is becoming more annoying that the actual show itself.

The problem wasn't the premise - this all out war has been on the cards for years, it's the 'just' the writing and visuals.
I think the bottom line is that AMC isn't HBO, They flog their stuff to death, from the way they halved the budget and doubled the length of it after series 1 the writing was on the wall. It was the most expensive series to advertise on in 2013 and 2014, even higher than Game of Thrones, but they kept chipping away at the budget and now it's on the down slope they're cutting even more.
I know it's an art form of sorts so lots of money doesn't always mean great TV, but you can really see the cost cutting this week - from the obvious stuff like the cheap effects on the endless shoot-outs, sometimes bullets make holes in cars, most of the time they don't and the 90s spec CGI, but more so in the rushed and confusing story and the endless reuse of the same old sets.
If you're a massive fan and really invested in it, it's worth considering that it's probably not going to end with a satisfactory ending, it's probably going to be flogged to death for a couple more years and then be cancelled between series.

Pretty much agree with everything thats been said. I also didn't really understand much of what was going on.
I'm sure in some bits in the gun fights when the camera is over someones shoulder...you can see someone clearly in the line of sight but the shooter is trying to shoot someone hiding behind a car? It is possible to engage more than one target!
Also the guy at the end with Rick said he'd radio'd the Saviours and they were on the way?
Why did Rick do the classic Rick look? Surely they must have expected for word to get around that the different groups were under attack
