The Walking Dead Season 8

It is interesting that it seems to be universal condemnation now.
When it wad good, it really was fabulous, the first series was always going to be a tough act to follow - it was a mini-series with a huge budget and the whole Zombie genre was pretty well forgotten by the mainstream, they had their problems with series 2, but from the 2nd half onwards it was pretty good TV for a long time, ups and downs of course, but for the main good to great in my book.AMC (who have form for this I read) are milking it to death though, even when it was the biggest thing on TV in it's time slot and selling all over the world they were cutting the budget and it shows, not only in shoddy CGI, but shoddy writing, reused sets over and over, pretty poor sets at that and rushed filming - couple that with a story that isn't going anywhere and you've got some really pissed off viewers, investing in the story and characters to the point they're still watching (through habit usually).
Personally, whilst we're 8 series into it now, it would have been better to have covered this amount of story in 5 and ended it at 6, there were so many plot cul de sacs that could have been trimmed out.
Where the fudge did all those saviours come from? They took out every outpost. Also, WTF were the snipers doing? Just chilling watching them cut through the walkers.
I really am struggling to watch these. Its gone from excitement to apathy... to... I don't even know why I bother now...

Sounds like the mid-season finale does not improve things:

So the extended mid-season finale of The Walking Dead feels longer than it is, thanks in no small part to some very strange decisions to pad out the episode. Specifically, there's a LOT of staring at nothing from pretty much everyone. The show opens and closes with montages of close-ups of people staring into middle distance at nothing. In the middle of the episode, just in case you haven't gotten enough, there's more staring at nothing. It's all supposed to be moody and evocative, showing off the emotional turmoil of the group and its members, but it just ends up being a guessing-game, a who's who of characters that may or may not be easily told apart.

I've read a couple of reviews, I don't really mind spoilers any more, I'm only watching because my Wife still enjoys it. Den OF Geek said:

I won't spoil it for anyone, but it seems they're going to reheat something they've used before.
Wasn't the worst episode every, I think the worst part has been the worst part of this series, they just don't have the budget to shoot-outs. You end up with what appear to be flashing LEDs in the end of the barrels, lots of noise and bullet proof glass.
I assume Coral had already been bitten at some point off-screen when he offered himself up to Negan? He was struggling to move freely and mumbled something about 'not mattering now' or the like. I don't watch 'the talking dead' very often, but it's fun to sometimes, even if it does take away from some of the drama - they pretty much said Glen survived the whole wheelie bin thing, last night it was "nah, he's fked" cuts down the mid-series drama I suppose.
I agree, he's going to take Negan with him, even though that would stray from the comics.

For me, a brilliant review of the mid-season finale... I would imagine captures most people feelings on the episode and the season in general:

It's one forced plot after another with the characters we used to love sacrificed on the altar of laziness and greed.
The bite is pointless anyway.
1. There's no reason why a bite would necessarily be fatal. Bear in mind this is the same person who GOT SHOT IN THE HEAD a couple of months ago, and he was fine the next day.
2. Several others have been bitten in the past and survived
3. We established, waaay back in series 2 or 3 that everyone will turn into a zombie when they die, even if they didn't get bitten.
