My take would be

that Valkrie and the Revengers took escape pods with the other half of the Asgardians to act as their protectors - whilst Thor, Loki and Heimdall stayed behind to try and protect the remaining half.

Sif is still a wildcard. She could still be around.....somewhere. She wasn't in Ragnorok because of filming conflict.

Saw it last night. Not quite what I expected but not a million miles away

I did not expect Thanos to get all 5 stones in this film. I did expect Dr Strange would lay out the (ongoing) plan. Expected a lot of deaths but they all seem pretty hollow. I thought they were going to bump off old Tony but annoyingly he persists.

I think Dr Strange was right when he said something a long the lines of - 'We're in the end game now'

I've watched a couple of the other MCU movies recently and reminded me what an incredible achievement the franchise is.

I think they were right to end the film with his complete victory. If they were following movie convention they would have used this film to establish how powerful Thanos is, and the 2nd film would be the attempt to stop him completing his quest. But in the original source material he was in possession of all the stones for a while.

Even though the main characters are different (no Adam Warlock), it’s still a story worth using an entire film to tell properly. They could call it “I, Thanos”.

Feige sees the universe as before and after Avengers 4.

Thanos said to strange he didn’t use the greatest trick, a fake, so the stone imo is a copy or a fake of some sorts

That isn't how I recall it. He gets the locket of strange, says 'You didn't use your greatest trick [the time stone]'

Then smashes the locket and says 'It's a fake [the locket]'

However Strange made it quite clear that everything that we saw happening happened in the future he witnessed, which is why he says to Tony 'It was the only way [to win]'

We also saw Thanos use the Time Stone.

Then it wouldn't have worked, and THanos wouldn't have won.

I've read a few articles now, and as well as the mentioned omissions, and the ones I brought up, I started thinking of bad guys after the -best bad guy thinks he is a good guy' thing, Loki, the agrreived and overlooked sibling was it for the first part, but THanos now takes it, and everyone else, well that's where the MCU has always been a tad lacking. Thanos and Loki were entertaining, interesting bad and powerful. Zemo was clever but not interesting, Red SKull was entertaining but very one note. LIked the new super villains, made it feel like a fight, especially at the end...just remembered, the thieves from GotG2, that lot, we didn't see them either.

Of the top of my head;

Incredible Hulk - Abomination - in gaol? Leader - never followed up on. Ross, now a politician
Iron-Man - Iron-monger - dead
Iron-Man 2 - Crimson Dynamo/Whiplash - dead?
Captain America - Red Skull - as predicted he's hanging around
Thor - Loki - redeemed. Destroyer (more of an instrument of Asgardian king)- destroyed now?
Avengers - Loki - sad face
Iron-Man 3 - Killian -dead. Mandarin - still possible?
Thor 2 - elves and Kurse? don't know, can't get past 15 mins. biggrin
Captain America 2 - Bucky - redeemed.
Ant-Man - Yellowjacket - dead
GotG - Nebula - redeemed. Ronan...in prison? still around?
Avengers 2 - Ultron - dead
Captain America 3 - Zemo - dead?
Doc Strange - Hannibal - dead? The big demon guy...irrelevant?
Spider-Man - Vulture - redeemed and just somebody's (old) dad?..but again, one of the best baddies, and he was 'just doing right'
GotG 2 - Ego, dead, and he was ace.
Thor 3 - Surtur and Hela...in unending scrap? Gamesmaster...?
Black Panther - Klaw and some other panther...not seen it. biggrin

I would have liked some of them to have survived - only to crumble to dust after Thanos snapped his fingers. It would have underlined Thanos's point about the cull being random and arbitrary - affecting rich and poor alike. Even Thanos's allies don't get preferential treatment

Probably right, I did watch it on a streaming site with dodgy audio!

The after credits scene from Guardians 2 might indicate something here.

My thoughts is that it was in line with Thanos just killing half of the populations of planets etc he visits. It did look like at the start of the film the ship was in 2 pieces. maybe one half was allowed to live? Hoping (Guessing) Valkarie, Korg etc are all on that half and somehow managed to fly away.

I liked the film, it did a good job of bringing most of the MCU together that's been building up in for the last 10 years.

I'll try not to say anything spoilery, but I thought Thanos was a great bad guy. There are some comments in the Den of Geek review saying that the best bad guys think they are doing good things, and he's in that group.

Based on yesterdays opening in the states, it's taken number 2 spot in the highest opening day gross......not far behind TFA.

Worldwide it's already taken over $284 million in just 3 days - and we have yet to see what Saturday/Sunday figures are like.

We just watched Guardians of the Galaxy as I'm priming the wife for a trip to see Infinity War next week. A 6 year old film, and sure enough Rocket is asking for an eye. They really are playing the long game!

I can see why people could criticise it for the multitude of characters competing for screen time but to me it was a Thanos movie first and foremost.

It is always difficult to find a baddie that can carry a movie with the ambition of something like Infinity War but Thanos does it effortlessly.

I thought it was great.

Iron-Man was on last night, and Stark makes an amendment to the suit and Jarvis says, 'well that's a good idea if you intend to visit other planets, sir.' biggrin

edit
was on box office mojo last night and one it's first day, IW becomes number 5 in the us for the year in one day, and jumps over worldwide takings for Hulk in one day. biggrin

They shot/CGI’d whole scenes just for the trailers to throw people off the scent. Genius!

I thought it was fantastic, so much action but also a lot of personal stuff with Thanos. I love that he’s just so single minded and focused on his goal as he believes it’s the right thing to do.

One thing though....

The multitude of deaths was supposed to be shocking and many are wondering if they’ll come back. The big mistake here was including Spidey in the cull as we all know they’re about to make the next Spidey film with Tom Holland. So we know he comes back, so why can’t others.
