I just cant gel with this new Moody personal james bond we have had since skyfall.
The new, moody Bond is to satisfy the huge (and faster-growing) Asian audiences. The production company has said comedy Bonds (like Roger Moore) do not play well in China, Indonesia, etc.
I don't know if it's the moody thing per-se, but Hollywood is massively cutting dialog to help sales in the far east.

If you ask an Actor to show an emotion without using words, they're going to gurn all over the screen.

Less subtitles for non english speaking audiences makes for a better experinance for them and hopfully better sales.

If that's the case, Ryan goslings career is going to go through the roof!

Edit: INB4 jokes about "Ra Ra Rand"

Let's hope the next one is better than Spectre - that's two and a half hours I'll never get back. Enjoyed Skyfall though.

Daniella Craig or a woman bond would be worse.

Of Craig's 4 Bond movies, 3 have been rubbish, and only 1 has been watchable (Skyfall).

He is only doing Bond no.5 in 2019 because his attempt at a post-Bond career has flopped.

Suspect his heart won't be in it, he's only doing it for the payday, and the movie will be a bit cr*p.
Really?

You might be the only person I know who doesn't like Casino Royale.

I know QoS is a total mess of ideas but there's a pretty good reason for that.

Skyfall is great and although I'll agree Spectre isn't fantastic. I don't think it's awful either.

I was reading an interview with his personal trainer after the launch of Skyfall and he said that DC said he's only got 'one, maybe two' more films in him because the preparation 'absolutely kills him' I think the phrase was.

I think that's where the 'i'd rather slash my wrists' comes from and I wouldn't be surprised at all if it was the media intentionally misquoting him - or maybe it was said/released publicly as a way to maintain media interest in the film. So it could very well be his last.

I might be in a minority here, but I don't really like any of the DC Bond films - they are all decent enough, but all have bad points. The real reason I'm not a massive fan is the over grittyness of it all - not every film needs to be shot with moody closeups and gravelly voiced protagonists facing the reality of their life.

For me, bond is supposed to be a bit daft - Goldeneye is my fave Bond film and it has a bird who kills people with her thighs. Same with all the Roger Moore ones - TMWTGG (acronym points!) and Moonraker are daft, but absolute classics.

The end of the Brosnan era got a bit too silly for it to be watchable, but it feels like the DC films are going the same way, whilst also trying to be moody - hence you end up with weird ones like Spectre.

I've enjoyed his take on Bond. Casino Royale was brilliant. Can't believe that was over 11 years ago!

I'm glad he's having another go.
Craig is up there with (early) Connery imho - a good blend of physicality, meanness and not too much over the top "posh spyness"

Timothy Dalton would've been great with better films.

Roger Moore? I was a kid watching him so I will always watch one of his if it's on -- different character though - more in common with Austin Powers.

Brosnan? looks and acts like a smug accountant - more attention given to his hair styling than the acting!

I'm ambivalent about it. I figured they had wrapped up his era of Bond quite nicely with Spectre and the replacement could step in and take the character in a different direction.

I still don't understand why he had Sean's Aston Martin full armed, fuelled, serviced and ready to go in a lock up somewhere in London?

Did I miss something...

Skyfall was a dreadful film. Plot was just nonsense.

Plot was nonsense in a James Bond film shock....

Were all the others possible, probable and logical then?

DC owns the role for me. Despite expected amounts of nonsense, he/the writers have brought a quality level of realism and grittiness to the character..

I assumed it was the Aston he won in Casino Royale and that Q Branch had installed upgrades.

I'm also not sure how much life is left in the franchise. The character of Bond is very outdated in today's western society. I'm not sure I want him to move with the times, I'd rather he retired.
I think a Bond 'period piece' film set in the 50's, with a style close to the Fleming books would be great.

See, I'm the opposite.. I love the darker side it now has, Im not a fan of the jokey James Bond.

I hope Daniel Craig will do another Bond.

Thread title's a bit 'Daily Mail' isn't it? They've actually only announced the release date for a new Bond film as far as I'm aware.

Which would be OK, if earlier in the film Q hadn't explicitly said "we don't do that sort of thing anymore"...

I like Craig as Bond, I personally think they should end the franchise after the next film perfectly bookended with Connery/Craig and the lighthearted, almost parody Bonds in between. What I always find amusing is the 2 best Bonds (imo) seem to be the ones who are most desperate to distance themselves from the very character that made them, very wealthy global stars, whereas Moore embraced the part and seemed to love the fact he had been James Bond.

I liked Brosnan as Bond, in fact I have always been a bit of a Brosnan fan, 4th Protocol and his version of The Thomas Crown Affair are a couple of my go to films when I can't find anything to watch.

Slightly off topic I see there is a rebooted Saint film out with appearances from Roger Moore and Ian Ogilvy (no Val Kilmer though...)

I wanted Tom Hardy to get the role. I'm fed up with Daniel Craig now and think it's time for a change.
