Frankly I feel it's time for a change. The first couple of films with a new bond are always the good ones. They get steadily worse from there on. The last two, while visually stunning, were very poor in terms of how the story played out.

I'm also not sure how much life is left in the franchise. The character of Bond is very outdated in today's western society. I'm not sure I want him to move with the times, I'd rather he retired.
Haven't the most recent films been a kind of reboot anyway?

Introducing Blofeld, Casino Royale, Moneypenny, all things that have already been in the Bond universe before?

I really enjoyed Casino Royale and Skyfall. QoS I didn't like at the time but on repeat viewings it has grown on me a little. It still feels like the bits they didn't want to put in Casino Royale though. Spectre ranks amongst the most disappointing films I've seen (expectation vs what was delivered). For me it has been Hit-Miss-Hit-Miss so this 5th and final film should be good... fingers crossed!

I'm a big fan of the Daniel Craig Bond, he plays the part perfectly well and any disappointment with the recent Bond films have been due to the flaky script, not the lead actor.

Daniel Craig as Bond again, excellent news thumbup

I wanted Tom Hardy to get the role. I'm fed up with Daniel Craig now and think it's time for a change.
Tom Hardy is a great actor but I don't think he's Bond.

I think Damian Lewis would be excellent. Henry Cavill aswell, except for the fact he is and will now be associated with, Superman.

One of the things I don't like about Craig as Bond is that his grumpiness and dislike of the character is starting to show through in his performance.
It is a salary negotiation tactic. It has worked extremely well considering the size of each pay check.

Howard Stern is the king of this approach.

Don't powers that be want Idris Elba as the next 007? Or is that just speculation at best?

I'll look forward to the next film though. Layer Cake was also decent imho.

He keeps getting mentioned but I think he's too old. I think it's mostly the PC brigade that keep going on about him.

I'm inclined to agree, I think the part needs more a bit more tongue in cheek humour like it did when Moore was playing him and I think Craig could do it well.

It's only outdated if you let it become outdated. Bond has been a staple movie for 'the guys' to watch in my family for 3 generations, from my grandfather, who was born in the '30s, my dad who was born in the '60s to myself who is very much a '90s kid. Yes the gadgets have changed, yes some of his behaviours and mannerisms have been updated. But for the most part his character has remained a fair constant and is relatable across generations. I think the creators and right holders must realise this and realise the fact that they would be committing brand suicide among their loyal fan base if they try to change the franchise drastically.

Although that being said the longer it lasts as a sigil for traditional male values the harder certain groups will try to tear it down.

Ah yes, I'm "your sort". I'm the enemy because I'm white and male so therefor my opinion isn't valid. Anything I say is being racist/sexist or whatever else people want to accuse me of.

I'm wasting my time but the the reason for saying what I did is because there are some people that want another gender or colour as the main role only because they think it brings equality. I personally couldn't care less who or what is the next JB but I do care that it's the right person for the job and not because they were born with tits or anything else for that matter. I want actual true equality not forced equality.

Since you know best, can you qualify what makes you know best?

Can you think of any significant steps forward in equality - be it racial, gender, sexuality etc - where the issue hasn't been forced either by will or necessity?

Oh for God's sake here we go, I think even a discussion about cheddar cheese would get derailed and turned into an argument about racism nowadays.

Why should cheddar cheese only be deemed such if made in Cheddar? That is absolute racism and the antithesis of equality. Plus, the reason the workers wear white is not for hygiene, they are actually the Ku Klux Klan.

Stilton, Champagne, Cognac, they are all made by Nazis.

wink

Yes, I am well aware that you can buy Cheddar from places other than Cheddar.

I think they should re-make some of the old films; Goldfinger etc.

Either make it period from the 60s or an up to date version.

I was fan of Brosnan, although I'd agree he didn't have the best films he could have had.

I don't think people want Elba because he's black. It's because he's a brilliant actor, good looking and could do the gritty Bond that Craig has really well
