Tom Hardy wouldn't be my choice either nor would Idris Elba. I can see the appeal of both for the role but I'd prefer someone who isn't hugely established.

I'll look forward to the next Craig instalment anyway. Can't help but look forward to a Bond movie!

Yeah, I also want someone less well established, that's the only black mark against Idris, he's huge especially now he's in a new major franchise, he would be great otherwise, even with age. I'd like to see a new Bond who is mid 30's minimum.

I'm enjoying Craig's portrayal. His version seems to have a lot in common with Fleming's idea of Bond.

Mind you, he's got nothing on Sweeping Air Man from QoS.

That's ace.

Oh I don't know - a little makeup can work wonders. Look at how convincing Connery was as a Japanese fisherman in You Only Live Twice.

The last Bond movie wasn't very good - it appeared to be a rip off of mainly Roger Moore era action scenes. Every other Craig film has been a bit pants - lets hope they can get it together this time.

I think Living Daylights is one of the best.

Really though, I am a Roger Moore as Bond fan - The Spy Who Loved me and For You Eyes Only are my favs.

From Russia with Love and Goldfinger are the best.

GoldenEye was the first I saw at the cinema, and I still love it.

The best actor to have played Bond was Timothy Dalton. Unfortunately his two films were amongst the worst yet made, though that wasn't his fault.

The worst actor to have played Bond was obviously George Lazenby as he wasn't really an actor at all. Ironically this didn't stop him being an excellent Bond (as opposed to, say, Moore and Brosnan who were dreadful Bonds) and his film OHMSS one of the very best.

My favourites are "The Spy Who Loved Me" and "Goldfinger" purely for the Esprit and the DB5.

OHMSS is brilliant, the only issue to spoil an otherwise lovely film is the horrible voiceover that is in it for a quarter/third of the film.

And perhaps the ending, the only lowbeat ending in Bond history?

And the tyre squeals during a car chase. The car chase on a sandy beach.

Agree. With hindsight I think it stands up as one of the strongest movies in the entire catalogue. Best screenplay (probably because it exactly follows the book). it's beautifully shot, and it has one of the greatest movie soundtracks ever,

And I would have loved to have seen where Lazenby would have taken Bond. He was underrated.

He did a wonderful take at the end, and then was told by the director that Bond shouldn't be that emotional, so he did another, restrained stilted take, they used that, and then he was pilloried for not showing enough grief over the loss of his wife. biggrin

There appeared to be some traction behind the rumours of #25 being a remake of OHMSS. While I don't mind that, the film I really wanted to see, was one that starts a few moments after the end of OHMSS. Bond's attended Tracey's funeral, and goes after Blofeld etc.

My understanding on the contracts in place were that Waltz would be up for another one if DC was Bond, and Mendes appears to be out of the equation now (talk about Christopher Nolan coming in to direct, which brings other talented individuals with it). If you combine all that and make some assumptions, you might have something like...

Bond: DC
Bond Girl: No idea... but it needs to be someone the audience cares about if it's a OHMSS deal. Only Eva Green came close in that respect IMO.
Blofeld: Christoph Waltz
Director: Chris Nolan
Composer: Hans Zimmer
DoP: Hoyte Van Hoytema

As noted already, back during the press days of Spectre, there was already talk about who was replacing DC, and having spent 2 years on the film, most of us would be a little annoyed if the question asked by a journo was "who's taking your job then, Daniel?".

That said, there's a very big risk that #25 becomes DC's Diamonds are Forever - where he clearly doesn't want to be there but couldn't turn it down due to the dollars involved. I hope that's not the case though; Spectre (while not brilliant) did finish is such a way that it was open ended i.e. DC's departure, Blofeld still viable for future use (like the Connery days). I figured Blofeld escaping prison would be on the cards in the next one, if they aren't going the OHMSS remake route.

BLOFELD! It's sodding Blofeld! With a sodding "d" at the sodding end, not a sodding "t". Sodding Blofeld, alright?!

And breathe.
