Quite. I had to suffer the last half hour of the show on Friday. Music of the utter pish variety, and every second word of the inter-song blather was 'serious'.

Quite.

You should try listening to the same 'joke' over and over for the last 12-18 months, and see how funny it is then.

I hate the man with a passion.

It’s a 45min slot of silly pish taking radio playing music “of its type” from back in the day.

If you really “hate” gentle easy going sillyness then ffs grow up/get a grip/have a word with yourself or whatever the current favourite ph phrase is.

It’s not a slot for hardcore music types or audiophiles it’s just a slot for ppl to enjoy a bit of silly Friday.

I rather like it.

Why bang on about it for the entire week though? I get the principle...play some records and give a few 'shout outs' for 45 mins on a Friday night....but why make such a big fuss about it like it's the saviour of light entertainment?

If you listen to his show daily, he rarely talks about anything else apart from the build up to this 45 min slot, which is what any other radio station in the land does on a Friday afternoon anyway, playing a few records?!

Oh yeah sorry, forgot to say 'Great show Steve, you're the best!'

Because its a catch-phrase, its a "thing". I thought that was pretty obvious to be honest.
Heart does it with their one song 3 times for £30k thing.
Absolute does it with "Frank Skinner is in the car/bed with your wife" etc...
Jack does it for their morning show with "Girls of Jack" segment.

Does the fact that some other naff commercial stations "do it" make it good? I would have hoped that Steve Wright with something 40 years broadcasting experience would be able to rise above that st.

Chris Evans - tolerable
Ken Bruce - excellent, all stops for Popmaster
Jeremy Vine - Daily Mail nutcases, awful. He’s clearly an intelligent man but puts on this annoying nativity/ stupidity in order to stir up an argument.
Steve Wright - absolutely awful, however he has sufficient listeners who ‘love the show’ to outnumber the PH cognoscenti who hate him with a passion.
Simon Mayo - also excellent

I don't think I've ever enjoyed a nativity, even when I was a child.

Bah, humbug.

To be fair he's probably better suited for nativity than he is for radio.
I've been listening to him on and off, mostly off, since he started and I can't really recall him do anything intelligent.
I don't think he's smart enough to appear that stupid.

There are gems on Radio 2. You just have to look hard for them.

iPlayer is where you will find them.

Hi Steve
Irony. Saying “Hi xxx” when someone stands up for a person is as tired as dropping the ‘g’.

Why not let a female presenter have the 36% of Steve Wright's air time that is presently occupied by cheesy jingles from 45 years ago?
For the record - that '36%' of airtime is covert nepotism. Steve Wright's brother writes all his musical stings and jingles, so as well as no doubt having been paid handsomely by the BBC for them he will be regularly collecting a fat PRS cheque on the back their use in the daily shows.
That explains a lot! A number of times I have stumbled upon ‘Sunday Love Songs’, and thought I was listening to the intro for one. After what feels like ninety seconds, it turns out it’s yet another indulgent, soppy jingle.
