Each week is like a cup-tie. You have to do well or you're out - not like a season-long league when one bad week can be covered by a series of good performances.. I reckon if the show was like a league we'd all get bored, because by mid-season we'd know who the winner was going to be.
So we get nights like tonight. Still doesn't seem right, though.

Anyone else think Stacey comes across
As a but of a soccer mom? She just seems so smug and a bit over competitive compared to the others.
I think Phil Wang & Rob Beckett referred to her as a "Cheeky Mum" on Extra Slice 2 weeks ago. Phil's jokey take on her seems quite accurate after her previous weeks and turn around this week As a but of a soccer mom? She just seems so smug and a bit over competitive compared to the others.
Sad to see Liam go but I reckon he'll make it a pretty funny Extra Slice this week.

I agree. It would become gradually more apparent who was going to win and who clearly couldn't.So we get nights like tonight. Still doesn't seem right, though.

surprised that the oven supplier (Neff?) allowed the programme to go out with her ripping the door off. I am sure it's meant to come off for cleaning, but surely not that easily. Would have thought they'd have vetoed that as part of their supply deal.
I suspect most of the viewing public have no clue as to whether that oven is a Neff, Hotpoint, or whatever else.anonymous said:

Agreed. If they're neck and neck on a bad week, bin the one who has been at the bottom of the pile for the last few weeks rather than the guy who has won star baker and been consistently praised for his flavours.
If Stacey or Kate come first it makes a mockery of the show.

However if you apply a similar logic to say the Olympics, you'd have someone who finished 5th in the semi finals being put through to the final on the basis that they ran really well in the first qualifying heat but just happened to be a bit slow out of the blocks today.

I was amazed at how poor most of the show-stoppers were last night. Only a couple passed muster, mainly because too many contestants tried to be too fancy.
The standard was way below par. Are they trying too hard now it's getting near the end? Maybe panicking a bit?
The showstoppers always seem more 'showstopperish' (?!) when they have a bit more free reign of what they can create. The standard was way below par. Are they trying too hard now it's getting near the end? Maybe panicking a bit?
When it is prescriptive like last night always seems is little tame.
Plus I think last night was a particularly bad example. The example they showed while explaining what a Savoy cake was looked a bit meh.
Bit of a surprise for me too. I had Stephen down to win, with Sophie and Liam also in the final.
I have nothing against Kate but she's struggled for the last few weeks, and had a few disasters. Even she expects to go. I can't see her getting any further, and unfortunately that means Stacey in the final

Your final sentence I think is why I was so gutted last night. You can see in her face she's given up.
