Got to say though, those final cakes were incredibly poor for 12 bakers that had presumably gone through auditions to get on that show. I know many amateur cake makers who have knocked up character cakes that were so much better.
I'm no baker, but very few of them could even roll icing without cracks and poor joins, only the lady who did Lupita Nyong'o had some skill with her icing.
I guess there must be a limit to the number of people applying who could then take a potential six weeks off work (plus the two weeks self-isolation beforehand)

Oh gosh yes, it was awful. I meant just the fabric part but wasn't clear.

There is that I suppose, which might account for a lower standard this year. Still, it was episode 1. Upwards from here, though tbh the preview of biscuit week didn't look inspiring either biggrin

I liked Lucas, despite initial reservations.

I'm glad about that, the last few years it seems that a lot of them were already pretty accomplished bakers but didn't really go anywhere. I think you want them to be be pretty good but show some growth over the series.

As usual they have the obese contestant on to tick that box. Funny how they never seem to have an anorexic one but I guess that isn't as 'celebrated' as much even though both extremes are bad for your health.
WTF?
Cos it's not like you'd expect to have a good baker that might enjoy eating a bit of cake now and again...
Remind me the problem with having a larger lady on TV?

Personally I'm offended they have matt 'token alopecia' lucas on the show. He's always bloody on TV, yet you hardly ever see any of those really hairy people from Brazil. Even tho both of them have the incorrect amount of hair

I reckon he's being kept in for comedy value.

dunno but when Paul kept coming to the table of that Derek (is that his name, the one who went out) guy, he looked totally unimpressed even before he began to speak.

The young whipper snapper is my vote for taking the title this year, even this early on.

I'm not so sure. He hasn't improved, whereas several of them have, even after week one. Rowan, while a little bit crap, was less crap than last week. Peter hasn't, and did poorly in technical.

Sura and Marc for me are going to be in the final.

Matt's fine for me.

Is it just me or are Noel and Lottie a bit passive aggressive with the chatter between them.

Still not sure on the Noel-Matt combo, they seem to want to out-random each other all the time and I usually love Noels random humour

Agree on both those points biggrin

Hopefully the Noel-Matt partnership will gel a bit more, there are some very funny moments but still too much which falls flat.

Apart from being very easy on the eye, Lottie seems to be good entertainment and banters quite well with Noel so hopefully she’ll be in for a while longer. I also thought her showstopper was a little under appreciated, yes a bit rushed at the end but making a Viking longship out of biscuit is pretty impressive.

I read on twitter something along the following ' Lottie, if she plays her cards right, could become Paul Hollywood's next ex-wife'
