Normally don't watch this series, but this lot moaning about suet and not having explicit directions about how much milk to use, FFS. Numpties.

These cakes when finished could be interesting.

Never heard of a jelly cake before with the designs inside. They look decent to me though.

Yep. Agreed with Paul on that, it was all about equal until the showstopper, the right guy went.

It's been said before, it'll be said again, it's more of a popularity contest than anything. Sura should never have left and Lottie stayed too long. Pete survived because he's the anointed one when it could be argued he hasn't actually improved throughout the contest. He's just stayed put. Whereas Marc and the others have improved throughout.

This isn't the BBC any more though, it's C4. They need the drama.

Poppy cake was amazing. Between her and Peter for the win.

Not sure any of them left are particularly marketable?

There's nobody that stands out as 'star baker', just 'least st'.

I fully appreciate that they are better at baking than me but I don't think it would take much to get to their standards. What is becoming increasingly clear during the C4 series is that either in the tasks or the contestants there's nothing that makes me go wow or is creating an edible baking creation that I would be impressed to tuck in to.

I also miss the Mel and sue times where they would explain the history of some bakes

But jelly cakes wouldn't be interesting "it's something Paul thought up while having a st last Sunday"

They all seem a bit well S**t in GBBO standards, like runts of the litter. I really cant get excited by this show / season at all.

I think it's a combination of having to choose the contestants who were willing to live in that bubble for the duration, plus being deliberately hamstrung by having shorter baking times.

Said the same to my mrs. last night. It's really quite dull.

Matt Lucas does look like a spare part though, doesn't seem to gel at all.

I thought Hermine's (spelling?) Poppy cake was amazing.

I was also surprised Pru is 80, she doesn't look that old

I thought they screwed up by only allowing 2.5 hours for the pond pudding. It needed a min of 2 hours of steaming and they all under cooked them by lots. There was also the screw up last week where they had to make ice cream cakes in 30deg + heat - it's going to be difficult and not a real challenge for their skills.

Agree with earlier comments that Lucas and Fielding are too similar. I've never been a big fan of ML and he doesn't seem to have any rapport with the contestants in the way that NH has.

Well the recipe in Mrs F's most reliable book gives the following time for Sussex Pond pudding as 20-30 mins prep, 3-1/2 hours cooking. This is what has pissed me off most about this show, right from first series. OK I get they have to set challenges that actually challenge, but setting a time limit at least an hour short. Just Arkell vs Pressdram.

Then as mentioned earlier, they're contestants in a baking competition who have never used suet in suet pastry or even, by the sound of it, in dumplings. As for that strange accented bird who won last night effort, complaining not been told how much milk to put in. Does she have instructions telling her which leg to get out of bed first?
