T2 is an absolutely amazing movie and it is just a shame that I have watched it so many times now that it loses some of its effect.
We watched it in the Cinema. To say many had their jaws agape was an understatement at the opening scene, and when the floor moved (you know what I am talking about) there were gasps..... It was great.

The best followup to T2 was the TV series "The Sarah Connor Chronicals".

It had a strong female lead with Lena Heady as Sarah (pretty much as good a Sarah as Linda Hamilton IMO), a 'female' Terminator sent back to protect John (Sommer Glau) and later on a female baddie (or was she a baddie? Her motives were ambiguous) played by Shirley Manson.

Some really good plots and themes including the 'friendly' Terminator becoming more human as she lived with John and Sarah, Manson's liquid metal Terminator not being able to fool 'her' child (don't think we found out if she had killed the original mother) but seemingly having some sort of bond with the child, the future gradually changing as Skynet sent back terminators to kill other members of the future resistance and change various other things in the past (not just focussed on trying to kill John) and maybe some sort of second AI fighting against Skynet - plus frequent glimpses of the future war.

Of course, this was all pre-woke era so it actually was a good story that happened to feature a bunch of female characters rather than the current case of pandering to 'woke' identity politics to force PC themes and mandated numbers of characters into a story because men are evil.

I rewatched all of the previous movies with my 12 year old. I like them all save Salvation. I enjoyed this new one. Yes, it’s been remixed from the earlier films but Force awakens was a remake of Star Wars and did surprisingly well. Considering it’s a crap film that gave my childhood favourite character a pointless, poxy, non heroic death.

Anyway, they tried to do here what they did with Genysis and reset the timeline. They used some of the same elements- explaining why the terminators age. As I said, I enjoyed it. The beginning is fast paced and I still get a kick from seeing Arnold play this character.

I read it’s been relatively unsuccessful. It’s as good as many other mediocre sci fi or superhero films over the past few years if not better.

The Last Jedi was even worse than Force Awakens (some feat in itself) and despite billion dollar earnings I thought both Captain Marvel and Black Panther were very poor movies.

There was a lot to like here.

I think people expecting something really fresh need their expectation meters tuning, particularly knowing the cast.

I thought it was a decent action movie. I would agree that if they turned the action dial down a touch it wouldn’t have done any harm.

I liked Linda Hamilton. The de-aging is I think the best I have seen in any film.

Glad I saw it on the big screen.

Be warned if you haven't seen the movie yet that they don't do their normal thing of giving a spoiler warning and then going into spoilers. Basically they think it is Ok and better than most of the other sequels since T2, just not great.
Watched it. Informative and fun as usual. I'm glad yters like them offer this service so I don't have to waste money on dross.

edit
after watching Grace's movie maths, seems it needs to hit $480m to break even.

IMO

Season 1 was very good and it had lots of potential at that point. Season 2 was far more variable and ended with a cliffhanger I didn't particularly care to see progressed any further.

Really enjoyed it, whilst it isn't as good as T2; I think it's a very good "T3", I was impressed with the CGI, particularly as it was a bit ropey on the initial trailers, so it was obviously "tidied up", it's just a shame that modern films seen to have lost something when compared to older films, I can never quite put my finger on it, they just sometimes seem a tad too polished, some are better than others, this is one of the better ones, however both T1 and T2 just seems more raw and less "perfect", but it just seems to be the way now.

The whole women saviour thing didn't bother me as both T1 and T2 were heavily centred around a main character who was a woman, who saved the day so it just seemed to stick with the theme.

I enjoyed the humour from Arnie and I liked the odd subtle nod to the original 2, particularly the music at the BBQ when the new Terminator fell through the shed.

Overall I think it's a 9/10, I just felt that Sarah's character could have been toned down a bit from the odd OTT one liner and badassness; it just sometimes came across as a bit fake and forced.

I really enjoyed it, I agree it makes a good T3, and as a big fan of the franchise, I was a lot more satisfied than I was with Rise Of The Machines, Salvation, or Genysis. Mainly Rise Of The Machines is the one I find poor, the latter two films still did some interesting stuff, even if ultimately left me feeling a bit sold short.

There was one bit I found particularly interesting the T800's ability to learn and adapt to being around people, and even have some form of empathy, ties into T2, but shows that it's the cinematic release of T2 that's canon, not the special edition, as in the extended special edition scenes they have it so the chip needs a switch flipped to be able to learn like that. Or Skynet sent this unit out with the learning mode engaged.

I was 29 when T2 came out, I watched it at the Odeon Leicester Square one sunny afternoon.

Outside after it had finished, I was as excited as a little kid, it was the best thing I'd seen in ages. I rang a mate and told him to get down and meet me straightaway.

We went back in and watched a later showing. It was just as good, if not better.

I still love watching it now.

I watched this latest one last night. It was pretty meh!

Robert Patrick is still the most chilling liquid metal Terminator.

Another thing that grated with me. Robert Patrick looked like a soldier in a police uniform in T2. Arnie looked like a de-greened Incredible Hulk in the original.

The latest guy looked like a Love Island contestant.

I agree with this. It was never going to be as good as T1 or T2 but it was the best of all the follow ups.

I think what made the first two films so great is that they just felt so real, like they could even be based on true events. Great writing, acting and direction to create characters and a story line that you really invest in.

One of my favourite bits in T2 is the look on Dr Silberman's face when the T1000 walks through the metal bars and it finally clicks that Sarah was telling the truth about Terminators the whole time. Great film making.

Yep, just a subtle look which says it all.

In the Dark Horse comics following on from T2, he ends up in pretty much Sarah's position, in a straitjacket with no one believing him.

Also, any excuse to post this:

I quite enjoyed it, the only thing that really let it down was Dani, she shows know signs of having any leadership qualities and it's completely unbelivable

a lot of people are giving it bad ratings solely because it's percieved as a feminist film which I don't think it's overtly so

I thought it was decent, not as good as T1 and T2 of course but then what is?

Seeing Linda the bad ass again was great and the way they reset the timeline by killing a major character at the beginning was quite bold and unexpected. I also like the fact that they stopped Skynet only for another AI to pretty much do the same thing.

Arnie was good value as always and I even liked the new female transgender character, the scene with the whirling metal chain was inspired.

If there is one thing Cameron does really well it's action sequences and this one had lots of very good sequences which lift the film above the normal Hollywood fair.

The only weak part was the lead Hispanic female, not convincing enough for me. The baddie was also decent enough but not a patch on Robert Patrick

I also agree with a poster above about Arnie learning to live with humans, he needed his chip changing from read only mode to be able to do that, otherwise he would just remain the same uncaring machine, completely skipped over that part though

All in all a decent T3 and much better than the other sequels. However If they were hoping to pin the franchise on the new girl, I don't think that will work as she's just not interesting enough, I found transgender person a much more interesting character

Was she supposed to be transgender? I saw her as a woman with short hair.

Yeah... that's just Mackenzie Davis?

Are you confusing her with Ruby Rose, the mute assassin in John Wick 2 (who isn't transgender, but doesn't especially identify either way)?

That wasn't in the cinematic version of the film, only the extended version. If you watch the original he says his CPU is a learning processor.
