Got my Fiesta in June 2016. The car is now on approx 11,500 miles and I've booked it in for its first service later this week.

Through my own stupidity, I failed to read the bit on the servicing that stated it was 12,000 or one year from date of first registration, whichever came first. Essentially, I should have had the car serviced in June of this year - whoops. I'm basically four months overdue. I was too used to vast service intervals and the reminders popping up on the dashboard like they did in my previous car...feel like a bit of a plonker.

When I spoke to the dealer on the phone, he told me that whilst I had indeed technically voided the warranty, the fact that I hadn't exceeded the mileage limit might help me in the event that anything major went wrong and I had to claim, although I'm not sure I believe him.

So, does anybody have any experience of Ford warranties? Am I completely stuffed here if something goes wrong?

Whoever said that to you probably would also say that you'd have to bring the car to Ford for servicing / repair to maintain the manufacturers warranty (also false).

Basically, don't worry about it.

If any OEM avoided paying a claim, using the 4 months late as a get out - It would show them up as the sts that some of them may possibly be,

I am sure that the salesman (other gender are available) said that it was based on mileage, not age...

As the dealership mentioned, warranty is more or less now void.
Dealerships are a business there to make money. If they can find a way of not doing an expensive repair on your vehicle to save money, that's one way.

They might show mercy and give some good will in event of something failing but i suspect the dealership are just sweet talking you so you continue to go there for services so they continue to get your business.

You've a terrible memory.

I'm sure you had it serviced in May at that garage your mates mate works at. Give him some beers and get a replacement copy of the invoice.

What’s the dealership got to do with anything ......

They don’t call the plays with any repairs, it’s up to the manufacturer to green light any warranty work and they pay the dealer to carry out the work.

I d find it unlikely the OPs warranty is infact void and I d be surprised (although it’s not impossible) if the manufacturer would say the same.

When a claim for a fault goes into the manufacturer , it’s accompanied by the Service history / mileage etc etc, you re late having a service it’s not the end of the world , it’s hardly a high mileage car either.

I think the OP will be fine in the event of needing to claim.

Quite right.

Your mate used genuine ford parts as well.

Yes, the guy I chatted to said that it's not up to the dealership whether or not repairs are approved - it's up to Ford's Warranty department to approve the work the dealership is paid to undertake on a "case by case basis". In his eyes, he believed that despite the late service any repairs would likely be approved, particularly since the car was under mileage.

The irony is that in May it was in a repair workshop getting a genuine new Ford rear bumper, light cover and bootlid after a lorry slammed into the back of it.

I'm sure they must have done a proper service then too, right? Yes, it's all coming back to me now... wink
