Hmm, what about the 2CV they were commissioned to get from France, do up and sell, without haggling, to the person who commissioned it and the BMW isetta that coincidentally was bought by their museum. I also wasn't convinced abut the hot rod they built as a tribute to his dad...why wouldn't you keep that yourself?
Fair point, but those types of episodes (the FSO Syrena as well) were occasional one-offs in a series. It's gone from that to being the norm now.

PS. I reckon the Ford Pop (and the electric Masarati and the Amphicar) were genuine examples of cars/projects that either Mike or Edd personally wanted to feature on the program that they knew would attract attention and sell on regardless, rather than the pre-determined jobs for a third party they seem to have a string of now.

The unquestioned change of wheels and complete suspension replacement on the Mach 1 (with Mike making no noises at all about the unnecessary expense yet adding little value to the end result) totally shouted pre-planned project with someone else calling the shots at me.

My god, anyone who thinks that Wheeler Dealers or Car SOS are a padded out, repetitive, false tension piles of carp should watch an episode of Yianni Supercar Customiser.

Ok the car was a Pagani something or other but 24 hours to apply a couple of stick on red stripes.

Makes the other programmes look like the motoring equivalent of Blue Planet

Unfortunately WD has been over Americanised, as television isn’t about the viewers, it’s all about money, obviously. Brewer doesn’t give a st about who’s watching it if he’s collecting a fat pay check at the end of the month. And Ant obviously is in it for the cash, I saw on his social media’s he flew from LA back here to see his daughter on her birthday (fair) to fly back again a day later or something, can’t do that on minimum wage!

I’m sure they’re both nice guys and both have worked for what they’ve got, so fair play. But I can’t help but thinking Edd left because he was interested in the viewers, and he wanted people to watch WD and afterwards think ‘I can do this on my car’ or ‘oh Edd did it like this, I might attempt it now’. Or he’s earned enough not to give a fk and is enjoying his life in peace. (I met Edd last year and asked what his plans were and he said to keep an eye on his YouTube).

Personally I’d rather go on YouTube and watch a video someone has made off their own back for no real financial gain, and is enthusiastic because they’re passionate about what they’re doing! (See DannyDC2 or 6two1 etc) To an audience of a few thousand, not reading off some crappy script!

Trouble is when some people get a few hundred thousand viewers online (due to their own hard work) the TV executives cotton on quickly, and rather than loose out on the cash they end up pimping out people like this Yianni bloke to make god awful programmes to fill a half hour slot that would normally have 15 year old TG episode in. But everyone’s happy because the TV bosses get paid, the YT sensation gets paid and people watch it regardless.

But maybe I’m just jealous because I haven't got a purple chrome Lamborghini with a financed wrap and a verified Instagram account.

In summary;
Brewer - rich and annoying
Anstead - odd voice and rich
China - probably didn’t let money sway him??
WD - not bothered about it anymore but will probably see the repeats

And the ste on Dave can fk off.

Congratulations if you read this ranting

Edited because I’m a dozy tt and pressed submit my mistake before I’d finished writing banghead

Plus the Mazda RX7, Honda S2000 and the Porsche 914 all sold back to the original owners

I recorded the latest episode and saw it last night.

I like Ant but he seems a bit stilted at the moment. Nothing as bad as Ed at the beginning, way back when, but still surprising. It is obviously scripted but doesn't seem turned to his delivery.

Overall the Mach 1 was the best so far, but not that memorable. I hope it will change a bit as the season progresses and, perhaps, Ant gets more leverage. There seems little reason for Mike at the moment. All he does is go shopping, and I'll be doing that tomorrow.

I thought there was a lot more to Ed leaving than admitted, but seeing how the show has progressed, I think I understand his feelings.

It might be that I'm getting fed up with cars that you can see regularly. There're a couple of Mustangs round my way, although no Mach 1. How about a programme where historic racing cars are salvaged, repaired and put back onto the circuit?

Ant, I thought, was a bit of a catch, but he needs to up his game I feel.

And I might add that a bit less OTT enthusiasm might improve the programme. That Supra was, at best, not bad
I have to say I concur although I feel doing up old racing cars, as fascinating as it would be, wouldn’t appeal to the more modern general viewer who probably only watch to see cars they recognise.

Yes, you are right. Poor wording on my side.

I didn't mean to suggest WD goes over to classic racing cars but a new programme. There'd be some footage of it racing in the past, perhaps getting it back to a specific period, with the drivers helping out, and then seeing it racing in a classic event.

At the Silverstone Classic last year there was everything from and E93A powered, if that's the word, sports car to a 7-litre group C. There are a number of companies who service these cars and prep them for racing - there's a job my careers adviser didn't suggest. They'd surely want to get on board.

I'm seriously not into American muscle but I have to say that Muck Won Mustang was looking very nice. Regarding The Ant's inability to pronounce names, this was further confirmed in the latest episode. Does anyone recall the episode of the other programme where he repeatedly mispronounced Countach? It was cringingly bad.

The bit where Ant used the strobe gun on the engine - did I fall asleep in the middle or did he not explain it's use at all?! I was utterly confused by his explanations entire lack of reference to the TDC marks, unless I'm missing something?

No the best bit was him dropping the new distributor in with the cap still on, irrespective of rotor and engine position, I know in an hour show they can't go over everything in fine detail, but I'm sure someone somewhere will now attempt to change a dizzy and cause tthemselves a right headache.

They're my thoughts.

A friend of mine had a 2-stroke SAAB, inherited from his father, and then went for the V4 although kept the 2-stroke. Both cars looked superb and they ran very well, and I always had a soft spot for them. My father had a 99 so I was looking forward to the first WD SAAB. I was not disappointed.

Apart from the car being painted yellow - yellow! - of course.

That amount of rust in that position would have put me off. The cutting of the glass for the screen was interesting as well.

I enjoyed it.

I would have preferred a 2-stroke engine being worked on but then my friend once got under 20mpg after a 'spirited' drive ao perhaps the V4 is the one to go for. The low noise level didn't go for the 2-stroke, windows shut or not.

Haven't watched last nights episode yet, but have watched the new ones up until then. I did, however, catch the last half of the Ford Bronco episode with Edd, and it's the first time I've re-watched one of the last episodes with Edd in.

My impression so far, is that Ant is a better entertainer than Edd in the way that Ant's always enthusiastic about the project. Yeah he mispronounces words but you have to remember he's in a country where they pronounce "niche" as "nitch".

That said, I still don't understand Edd's comments about the new series being less technical. If anything I think this series has been way more technical. Ant does a lot of the work himself where you would think Edd would have outsourced it.

But what struck me in the Bronco episode was that, looking back, Edd looked completely done and fed up. Like he had lost his spark. It's a shame, but it is what it is.

I concur. I’m impressed with Ant’s skills and he’s a totally different character to Edd so I think it’s unfair to compare the two on a like for like basis.

There was the 900 turbo, which I forgot. There was the 9-3, which was a Vauxhall, so I ignored it. What was the third one?

Likely so would you if you'd worked with Brewer for as long as he had.....would be enough to drive anyone round the twist.

I liked the old WD, and could live with a lot of the mistakes/wrongs in it, and could just about put up with Brewer's annoying screeches and mistakes........

Saw the episode of the new show where they did the 240Z, while I was in the USA late last year, and the new format wasn't doing it for me, at all, so I won't bother with watching any of them when they eventually appear on Dave or Quest over here.
