Mike doesn't speak to well of Edd here...

That's one of the videos I was referring to earlier. I wouldn't normally add much credence to youtube commenters but in this case I 100% agree with the majority. It was a crass and juvenile thing to do and I've heard Brewer contradict himself enough times to know how much value to put in the veracity of this statement.

Mike has always come across as a bit of a backstabber, and as several people have observed he seemed to have Ant sniffing around him like a dog-on-heat at the Goodwood Festival and other live events long before Edd's departure was announced.

In retrospect the whole thing looks like an attempt to get his subservient mate on the show to replace someone who is prepared to actually stand up to him and probably upstaged him.

That Mike felt the need to pervert the format of the show and do some of the spannering, and even emblazon his name on a toolbox in full view of the camera in the last series tells me he was having inferiority issues.

Really like Ant. He seems like a really nice, knowledgeable guy and is entertaining to watch. Very much liked Edd too, but I think Ant is a worthy alternative.

Mike is exactly the same, except slightly fatter and even more sweaty. He seems only a few In-N-Out Burgers away from having to present the show on a mobility scooter.

I saw on Twitter that Mike said the dodgy fit of the Cosworth spoiler addition was due to that one being a temporary one for filming and that the permanent item that is now fitted is perfect. Err, yeah okay. biggrin

I've seen a couple of the new episodes with Ant, and they are ok.

The problem I have is that Ant doesn't wear any protective gloves which say to me he doesn't actually do the spannering. If you have your hands in oil and grease for hours you need those gloves.

Noticed on Discovery that there is a new Uk version of a car show starting on 8/1/. Some English car customizer..... perhaps its time for a new show, a new presenter...
Is that the thing being advertised on one of the Freeview channels with "Yianni" or something like that, loads of "well cool bruv" comments in the trailer? Sounds awful, but might be worth a look except if it started on 8/1 I've missed the first one.

That's the one. IT think it's time for a new show. Tired of WD and Fast & Loud. Kindig Designs is good although his shop foreman / manager is starting become a tt. There used to be a series called ` Turn and burn`. Only had one series but I liked that dude, was so cool and `real`. Only brought $1000 cars and managed to get them fixed up. I liked Counting cars too but again Horny Mike / etc are becoming painful.

So, a new selection of raw / honest car shows, budgets of £2K max, fixing them up and selling them. After a while £100K cars become boring as I cant relate to it.

Just watched the Supra episode, and really enjoyed that one. A nice job they did on it, and some good technical explaining from Ant. A was worried I was going to call it a day after the, IMO, crap Cosworth episode.

Enjoyed the Supra episode but thought the technicals were a bit light this week as it was basically a re-trim and a head gasket...

Looking forward to watching more smile

Thought they jumped in to quick on the head gasket, could have just been condensation build up from a too infrequently used car, no evidence on the gasket removed either shown, nice opportunity for Ant to twiddle the spanners though for the camera.

I did think that... There seemed to be very little mayo, though I guess they were somewhere warm (and they probably knew the HG was gone beforehand).

I guess Ant built the exhaust system and welded up the cracked manifold too. Although I thought current thinking was; to get those welds to hold, you should heat the manifold up first so you fill the hole 'expanded' to around operating temps?!

Enjoyed the episode but still prefer how Edd used to present the spannering, all seems a bit dumbed down and Ant comes across as a bit patronising, if you don't understand what happens when a head gasket fails I don't think wheeler dealers is for you. Also he didn't mention that they don't just go between the cylinders and the water jacket either.

I just can't get excited about the programme any more, like others have said the "Americanisation" just doesn't do it for me and it's lost its relevance (for me). I loved the old episodes (928 etc.)

A car show I really like is Chasing Classic Cars; it isn't hyped up and there are some lovely cars featured. I watched a great episode the other night where Wayne purchased 3 x Ferrari 308's from a deceased's estate (he couldn't make the bank transfer quick enough!) and sold an old Ferrari (can't remember the model).

What did Mike Brewer say about the gearbox in the voiceover when the car was completed? It sounded like "with a William Moser 5-speed gearbox".

I thought it was an Aisin W5* transmission (W58?). Who is William Moser?

I'm enjoying the new series, and Ant is very likeable, although I feel guilty watching it. It's like I'm being unfaithful to Edd.

I once met Ed, in B&Q Slough. Shopping with Sarah, I saw him. Instinctively I called 'Ed!', he turned around, presumably thinking the voice was someone he knew. I then followed up with 'Sorry, I enjoy your show' he replied 'no bother' shook my hand. S then said 'where do I know you from?' I replied 'Wheeler Dealers'. He then looked at S and said 'Sorry about that' He was very personable.

I thought the head gasket demo, with the perspex and silicon was pointless.

Is it just me but ant anstead is patronising. He feeds you incorrect information for starters. And don't get me started on them ruining a standard escort cossie. Plus why is it all in dollars now. It's a British show so at least do us the decency of using good old sterling.
Edd, is that you?
laugh

I've watchd the first two and, apart from the US angle - that takes some getting used to (although Brewer did do that global series lat year), and with an open mind, I'm leaning towards the Anstead approach. In the first two he's explained a lot more than Edd did (and he can fit into most cars too). smile

Not sure I agree with that statement. This is a new programme for a US audience - its not the Edd series. That said, why should one know everything about a topic to watch it. Ever heard of learning new things biggrin

It would have been more realistic if he'd sealed the whole head except for a tiny gap.
