Great opening episode, and the chemistry between the three is building nicely. Not much to not like, the chain racing looked a proper hoot. Of the three cars I think I’d take the Jag, out accelerated the other two comfortably, a fraction of the price of the McLaren and the Mustang couldn’t use half its power.

Series looks like it’ll be a good ‘un.
My Mustang was £42K a fraction of the price of the mclaren and half the value of the jag, surely the best bang for buck of the three (i know mines a 5.0 GT and the Hennessy would be nearer the price of the jag)
The standard GT350R is a weapon & nothing like the GT, it's a completely different engine (N/A 5.2 Flat plane crank V8) for starters the suspension etc if you want to see how really good it is watch the links below.

The one MLB was driving was a Hennessey tuned (via a Supercharger) version which is where the 850bhp comes from, in standard form the GT350R would be close to that 570GT around a track & leave the Jaguar for dead take a look at Randy Pobsts lap times board at Laguna & Big Willow then look at the cars that are below (458/GT3 at Laguna for starters) it on the list, have no doubt about how good it is.

They're 65k in the states but in reality you'll pay 70-85k if you want one.

I forgot to add that Hennessey recommends the 630 conversion if you actually want to improve laptimes.

I did like that Mustang - would be my choice albeit in a dark blue or black colour. I'm sure I'd be happy with a 630 conversion! My previous one only had 300-ish

Enjoyed the show today, as others have echoed, both TGT and TG will ebb and flow with good and bad parts, however 2 good car based shows isnt to be sniffed at.

Enjoyed this more then any of the last TGT series despite following comments;

- Main feature went on for too long, needed more to break it up a bit (i.e get rid of the figure of 8 chain race and have a car feature in there). -
- Another thing that annoyed me is the whole look theres an empty runway, im sure they wont mind us trespassing on it etc. Its tired and underestimating the audience imo.
- Shame the salt flats were flooded
- Could of made more of some historic V8's if celebrating them

Extra gear is worth watching too, not really seen any interviews with Hennesy before and certainly was an interesting guest. Also didnt know about the two differnet GT40's in le mans, i thought it was all Shelby lead, not two years Shelby two years "JW"

Bring on the rest of the series smile

me too so much better than TGT.
I quite liked it too. I'm not sure what some folk expect from a car show on a Sunday night.

I didn't think the presenters were as bad as some are making out. I couldn't really care that much about "chemistry" between the presenters. (Is there any other show apart from TG that people genuinely worry about that?)

EG was like something from a regional chat show. Absolutely awful.

I enjoyed it tbh and that mclaren was darn pretty! And quick!

I refuse to pay to watch tgt I feel like they sold out so it’s annoyed me! I like Chris Harris not keen on Rory and not sure about Matt le blanc

I think because CMH play up their very different character flaws it makes them more human/relatable. With Chris and Matt in particular it feels like they're both trying too much to be the top dog alpha male character, and with me-to tagging along it feels a bit of a sausage fest.

As with last series they need to throw away the clarkson & co script and checklist and do something different, as CMH do their thing best and anyone else doing something too close to it will always feel a bit.... Derivative. Felt like they were trying really hard to keep the american audience on board too...

Solid start, though it feels like they're having to just get comfortable in their skins again. Should improve as time goes on.

Liked the V8 piece though some parts were very obviously contrived. I don't mind that, I understand pretty much everything has to be pre planned for a shoot but I think a better effort to hide them could have been made.

Star in a car... I have to say is actually worse than what TGT have cooked up for season two. They haven't got the interview technique down really. But this was always the weakest link on the show so not overly bothered.

Filming is absolutely beautiful as always. TGT looks good too but IMO the BBC have that little extra magic added that gives their shots the edge.

Solid but not dazzling start... A good place to start from none the less.

So some people like TGT and think TG is rubbish, whilst other people like TG and think TGT is rubbish, and other people like TGT but like TG just as much and other people think TGT is rubbish and so is TG?

Some one asked earlier but I haven't seen a reply, was the GT40 a real one or a replica? I would have thought all of the three new cars would have walked all over an original, especially as its owner wouldn't be happy with Stiggy ragging it at 10/10ths.

Absolutely terrible, tedious dross is the best is I can say about it. Sabine and Rory almost as annoying as Chris Evans.

Putting those cars on dusty and unsealed roads was just stupid, as idiotic as anything TGT has done. Just totally pointless

Having felt the first series was a bit cringeworthy, I was prepared to hate this but we watched it as a family and all thought it was good. They don’t seem to be trying too hard now and that makes it easier to watch. The figure 8 chain racing thing is a brilliant idea.

I prefer the car content of Top Gear, but the presenters of The Grand Tour.
If only there was some way those two elements could be combined...

Really enjoyed it. A lot more polished then grand tour. I like both both the Grand Tour has too much chat/celeb rubbish. I think TG has improved alot and looking forward to this series.

At least the 'unscripted' bits seem real, unlike in TGT.

Perhaps you would like them to include 30 minutes of footage getting permits filled in and signed, health & safety forms, insurance forms, negotiating with local government officials etc?
