Some one asked earlier but I haven't seen a reply, was the GT40 a real one or a replica? I would have thought all of the three new cars would have walked all over an original, especially as its owner wouldn't be happy with Stiggy ragging it at 10/10ths.
The car in the main show is a Superformance GT40 MkII (not a Mk1 as stated in the show) with a 427ci - an "authentic" but not "original" GT40 - it is or used to be one of their demonstrators, there are plenty of videos of this particular car on Youtube. This is finished to look like p1046 which won Le Mans in 1966. These are factory built and can be bought new. They are "authentic" because they are authorised by Safir who hold the rights to the "GT40" name - up to 90% of the parts are interchangeable with the original race cars, but they have aircon, modern brakes, 12v electrics etc. However they have no driver aids, and would likely be running Avon 6CRZZ tyres which have "period correct" (ie not a lot) of grip, so Stiggy did well. The car in "Extra Gear" was different - it seemed to be an "original" Mk1 with a 302ci, rebodied as a MkII clone of p1046.

It was a replica. All the originals were RHD, whereas that one was LHD.Enjoyed last nights opening show, the presenters certainly seem more at ease with each other and comes across on the tv. Still some stupid scripted lines but thats always going to happen.
Never liked the SIARPC piece, although I normal like Rob Brydon in general so made a cuppa when that was on.
Onwards and upwards for the new season.

I was a bit disappointed with last night's opener.
It wasn't terrible and, on the whole, I quite enjoyed the last series, but...
Harris needs to realise he can't act and just be himself.
They need to stop painting Rory as the 'stupid young bloke' (I won't repeat what my wife suggested they were making him look) - for example, with views of the salt flats he, supposedly, didn't know where they were going (although, I'm sure they all knew exactly what the plan was).
Le Blanc seemed to be more Joey last night than in the last series - Maybe it was the undue influence of a supercharged Mustang?
Still, it was genuinely funny in parts and they do seem to have gelled pretty well.
Personally, I miss James May, he was always the best bit of the old TG team, but having dropped the truly awful "ME, ME,ME,ME, ME" Evans, they seem to have come up with a workable team who are enjoyable enough to watch.
I can honestly say, I never once thought "This would be so much better with the old team", although I did think "Oh, for God's sake" a couple of times!

Perfectly sums up my view! The V8 piece went on far too long, and featured 0% driving through long tunnels...opportunity missed.
Matt certainly seems more relaxed into the role this time but I still cannot warm to Rory.
I enjoyed that, and I suspect there's better to come. The whole show being the V8 piece with a short break for a (dull) guest was a bit much mind, IMO they should have trimmed it down and slotted in another piece.
On a separate not, the cinematography blew away TGT.

I think a 'Road Trip' for the opening episode was what let them down.
The first episode should have had a few more segments IMO as I found my attention drifting at times
The duel thing made me smile. Coming to a McDonalds/supermarket car park near you soon!
I was just really impressed by the way the 570GT picked up pace on that surface. The first episode should have had a few more segments IMO as I found my attention drifting at times

I enjoyed it in the main, apart from the Ken Block bit. I love watching Ken Block, but it just seemed a stupid thing to do with such magnificent cars.
As I commented to Mrs PT, "these two must have hard time hanging out with Matt Le Blanc in the hotel afterwards, it's all a bit as if they have to try to hard to get attention from the cool dude. Still, better than kissing Clarkson's arse as he gets pissed and lippy on Rose!"

Yes, I enjoyed this at least as much as TGT. It felt to me like it had moved on from trying to outdo TGT and just getting on with it's own thing.
The presenters are a bit weak except that kids TV guy. What's his name? Ralph? Rory? Whatever. Now he's very weak In any case, I wouldn't be sad to see him go.
That Matt bloke, the one we've seen on TV doing other stuff, he could probably stick at this, as could the bloke with a face for radio - Chris Harris. He'd do better not trying to pretend to be Richard Hammond though. TV has 1 too many of them already.
Really good to see 2 entertaining car shows.
Chain racing - brilliant.
