Somebody passionate about F1 and somebody who used to drive in F1.

Yawn.

MLB was getting pretty good at it, ideally someone in a similar vein plus Chris Harris would be fine.
The only bits I've seen of Freddie appear embarrassing tv at best. Paddy is at least not gonna put any false airs n graces on but I think he's been very fortunate to have a career at all tbh. His finest moment being the "Tommy Dickfingers " outtakes !

Paddy on TG ? BBC going for the low rent Take Me Out viewer to bolster numbers. Final season of TG it is then.

I think he's just what F1 TV coverage needed - someone who is passionate about the sport, but can do the lighthearted, irreverent, occasionally insouciant thing that appeals to the younger generation that the sport absolutely has to engage with. Who else would you like to see?Steve Ryder come back all is forgiven? Jim Roosenthal?

Why would the BBC want to increase exposure of a sport they no longer show? F1 made the same mistake as Cricket and followed the Sky money without thinking about the effect massively reduced viewer numbers would have. I'm no spring chicken and can't recall the last time I watched F1.

Who has said Steve Ryder and Jim Rosenthal would be great on TG?

Have you seen (heard) how much coverage five live give to F1? I don't know of any commercial radio station that does that. Despite there being no television coverage of F1 on the BBC, their website for F1 is pretty extensive. I actually thought when they pulled the plug on F1, the website and radio coverage would go as well but fair play to them, they've kept it up.

No. Danny Baker is the only thing I listen to on 5 Live. F1 has been dull for years, nothing to do with lack of exposure. I got bored after James Hunt retired.

You don't watch F1 yet feel qualified to say that it is dull. The fact that you think it is dull simply proves that you don't watch it.

Just like many other sports they cover. When did they last show cricket on BBC TV, for example? Their remit as the national broadcaster compels them to cover events with a national or major international interest. TV is just one of the media available to them to do that, and if the TV broadcast rights aren't available to them then they can still cover events through other media to fulfil their remit.

Isn't this irrelevant? Regardless of whether or not F1 is st (it is, BTW); filing TG with F1 people is not a formula for success.

No pun intended, because F1 people don't have senses of humour.

That's why I flagged my post as O/T.

I really enjoy the chemistry of Steve Jones and David Coulthard on C4. These two, along with Chris Harris, could make a great line up for TG. You'd have:

- A proper racing driver who could wring the necks of cars
- A proper motoring journalist who knows how to review cars
- A proper TV presenter who can tie it all together

Appreciate Steve Jones might not be everyone's cup of tea but I find him pretty amusing, and he's clearly passionate about F1 at least.
I'd actually agree with that.

Personally I think Mark Webber is vey under-used on TV. He's a natural in front of a camera, in that he doesn't 'act' in the slightest. He's just totally himself, and it just so happens that 'himself' is very easy to watch and listen to. Not afraid to call a spade a spade, knows about cars, passionate about cars, naturally funny, and he's international.

As for the current selection, meh. I don't think I'll bother watching. I haven't minded the recent MLB, CH & RR era at all, and I've quite enjoyed some of the recent episodes. CH alone isn't enough to keep me watching a flat-earther and an un-funny comedian act out an 'entertaining' script.

I can actually speak from a bit of experience regards PM. I lent one of the shows he presented my car for a quick segment (as it turned out, so they could rip the piss out of it), so got to see him 'at work' around cars in front of a camera. He's confident, and everything he did with my car was ad-libbed (it was ste, but it was his own work). Spent most of his time looking at his phone while people were trying to talk to him, and he's certainly no expert when it comes to cars. Would possess a 'passing' knowledge, but nothing on the level of the current trio.

Was asked if I wanted a photo with him on the day. I declined. My mate did take one of him next to my car though.

Terrible interviewer though. His grid walks are painful if he meets someone unexpected and has to think of something to say to them, with the most long-winded rambling questions. Anyway, I heard that he's off to Sky F1 next year.

Isn't that just grid walks tho? They are generally pretty horrendous, drivers, team managers, and celebrities who know little about F1 and just want to be seen. None of them with anything interesting to say imo

That's what I was going to say - they're all awful, whether Brundle does it or whoever. I think DC does quite a good job of them, given the circumstances, and Webber's not been doing them long enough to become polished at it.

All a moot point as the BCC have BBC'd this up and employed a guy who isn't a sleb, but knows a lot of about cars, and two guys who know less than many of the people who are tuning in to watch them. Say what you want about CHM, but decades as motoring journos and enthusiasts meant that there was an air of substance underlining all the cock jokes.

Someone nailed it above, in my opinion. BBC are trying to emulate what TG's presenters became, rather than picking the right people and allowing the show to evolve from there. CH? Yes. The others? fk no.

I've said this many times on F1 threads, so apologies, but I think they have had their day. When Brundle invented the concept, it was fresh, it was new, drivers would happily talk to him because a) it was a novelty and b) a lot of them were contemporaries of Brundle so he already had a relationship with them.

Now, everyone is doing it, and drivers are sick and fed up with having a microphone thrust in their faces from the moment they step onto the grid until the moment they are in the car with their helmet on. And it shows.
