Much like TGT I find TG very rarely engages me for the entire show, but I do feel they're both worth a watch. Neither are brilliant but neither are absolutely dreadful.

I had the show on in the background and it seemed ok. But that's the key difference these days. It used to hold my attention for the whole hour, now it's just on.

I thought it was dire to start with, I fast forwarded through the star in the car section got a bit better at the end. It killed an hour but unlike many, many Top Gears of old I could watch them to death, this I will never watch again.

I also engaged fast forward last night.

Disappointing, as the V8s featured were interesting. A few minutes talking about Hennessey would have interested me... not the contrived booze smuggling scene (or whatever was happening).

A small chunk of time covering the history of GT40 would have been good - many have seen it etc, but for new/younger viewers etc

I enjoyed the episode. It was somewhat better than the first couple and last episodes of TGT s2, and certainly the equal of the rest of that series.

Those wanting more/different - can you put into words how you would have changed it and how this would have made it enjoyably distinct from the content of the last 15 years of TG/TGT shows?

I only managed about half the show last night - will probably watch the rest tonight, but was disappointed.

I hated the original TG and gave up watching it years ago - it was too much messing about, and far too little about cars.

I liked the first series of the new one and thought it was far more about cars.

Last nights episode just seemed like the original TG with different presenters (although that in itself is a huge plus). I really don't care how well 3 sports / supercars drive on gravel and dust.

Weirdly the magazine this month had loads of cars on ice and snow. The programme took cars on dirt tracks, gravel and salt flats.

What's wrong with proper bloody roads where the cars can actually excel?

I quite enjoyed it, but I don't feel the need to record it and keep every episode, as I did with the previous line-up. A little homage to the old crowd though in the chain racing where they accidentally ran into one of the others before the start. Not sure why Harris kept messing with the steering wheel, though I guess it's difficult to be sat at a wheel in a wildly uncontrolled car and not at least have a go, even if you've already been told it's not connected.

Manufacturers are continually and increasingly obsessed with power and speed so that (as Rory pointed out), in the real world, neither the Mclaren nor the Hennessey are any faster or quicker than the Jaguar.

'Proper bloody roads' aren't where these cars can actually excel, because they can't legally do anything that a fifteen grand VW Up can't do. Yes, they can handle better, and go through corners faster but without doing it sideways, it won't look vey exciting to the majority of viewers.

People like Harry Metcalfe does 'real world' reviews on 'proper bloody roads', but that doesn't make for spectacular telly, which is what TG and TGT, with all their opposite-locking and racing-backwards-and-forwards are all about.

What's going on?
Some people like it, some don't, but aren't the Likers supposed to turn on the Haters, getting all confrontational and insulting, saying "Well if you don't like it don't fking watch it you tt! furious "?

Or is that just other car shows?

Bring back Chris Goffey I say! Well, not necessarily him, but I too am bored with supercars being driven at full chat. Last night was just one item apart from the Brydon piece. One item an hour long - I would much rather see some stuff about cars we can afford. It needn't be boring if it's presented well. Surely it's not supposed to be an entertainment show, rather a magazine programme about cars?

Cars on proper roads are common. The scenery in TG was stunning.

Weird reply.

Sports cars don't excel on roads. Right...

As for the McLaren or Hennessy not being faster than the Jaguar. Give over.

The disappointing aspect for me is that I really look forward to the return hoping that I will enjoy it. I just keep being let down.
I am still hoping that as the series moves on, it must improve, cos at the moment it could not be any worse.
Chris is a well respected driver, and looks uncomfortable when he has to do things that he obviously does not want to do.
Matt is a fun character and as an actor can get away with it.
The girl and the other one just keep forcing the laughter but are not natural in any way.

So, I just hope it gets better cos I might just turn off the recorder.........

On the other hand, I might just miss something...................???????????????

Indeed, however Mrs Browns Boys is apparently hugely popular with the populous, so we are are in the minority.

Le Blanc is more wooden than wood itself and struts and poses through every shot.
Rory someone looks a genuinely nice bloke, but show wouldn't miss him if he wasn't there.
Harris is Harris. Genuine and self deprecating. Runs rings around the other two but format doesn't suit him.

Like him or loathe him, Clarkson made the show in this format. These 3 will forever be the fluffers unfortunately.
