SAS: Who Dares Wins

The new DS may be ticking a box, but he is one very scary looking dude! 3 decades in SF clearly indicates he's got it where it counts, just sad in the current times that it's more about box ticking than ability etc (not saying he doesn't have the ability in this instance).
3 decades in SF, operated in over 50 countries..... and we think his inclusion is to tick a box?! It should have been white ex-SF operator instead?Come on. I’m no PC/Racist warrior but reading some of the ‘box ticking’, ‘looks like Denzil’ comments, surely can’t read back right?
Bloke looks scary without opening his mouth or doing anything. I’d say his inclusion is every bit deserved not just because he’s black ex-SF.

The issue here is that Channel 4 sacked Ollie Ollerton because they wanted "more diversity to the Directing Staff (DS) on the series."Come on. I’m no PC/Racist warrior but reading some of the ‘box ticking’, ‘looks like Denzil’ comments, surely can’t read back right?

Surely sacking someone because they are white is racist in itself?

It's not just his inclusion. It's the selection of contestants, the different approaches to different contestants, Ollerton and Middleton's stated reasons for leaving. It builds a picture that breaks the ability for at least some of the audience to take his inclusion at face value. And the crying shame is that, like female comedians on Mock the Week, it shakes the belief that people are there on merit even when it never would have been questioned otherwise. Maybe this is why Ollie was turfed out. Maybe there was a candidate who had operated in 60 countries.

Then he could have become a new staff or perhaps one or two of the other staff might be nearing the end of their deployment?

They could have kept Ollie for this series and introduced the new man as the 'mole'. He would have proved his ability with ease, I'd guess.

They couldn't have brought the new DS in as a mole as they have strict age restrictions on contestants apparently and he's older than that restriction. Then he could have become a new staff or perhaps one or two of the other staff might be nearing the end of their deployment?
