What I like about Wheeler Dealers and Car SOS or James May Reassembler for example is that they often go into a bit of detail about how certain jobs are actually carried out. Rebuilding, restoring or modifying cars shouldn't be about lounging around wking over concept drawings, half formed concepts (that land rover front axle they designed gave no indication of how the front suspension or steering mechanism was altered, which was the real feat) or outlandish concepts just for the sake of it.

Nothing on the show is ever improved as a result of being modified, it's all look at me! look at me! style over substance nonsense, which glosses over the mechanical processes needed to do it. This implies that none of the presenters actually carry out any of the work.

I don't know who I find more annoying, that idiot with the stupid facial hair, or the obnoxious shouty American with no discernible skills, apart from outsourcing.

The Capri I know was again sent to an outside garage to make fit for sale.

FFS!

A 2 wheel drive monster truck.

The 60th anniversary of the Sportster illustrated with film of panhead Big Twins.

The awsomeness of flat track racing illustrated with comedy racing on a 374 yard stock car track in Norfolk rather than the real thing on an American mile. At least they illustrated the XR750 with an XR750. Pity about all the work RedMax put into the Sportster.

Cylinder linings? They're not curtains!

Why are they always too cheap to have the trim re-chromed?

A restoration programme with Fuzz and May I reckon would be about right.
Yes, that would be ideal viewing. I think they'd get along well, too.

That "monster" truck was the worst thing they've built so far. And the bar was already pretty low.

That Canadian prat spends ages slagging off British machinery then the first American vehicle they do turns out to be a complete nail. I did like what they (or more precisely someone they'd paid) did to the body but as already pointed out, its 2wd ffs.

I quite like the flat tracker, but again there was practically zero mechanic effort from the presenter, just selecting parts off the shelf. With hindsight a plastic seat unit probably would have been better for track use.

I was off with man flue yesterday and had the misfortune to watch the capri one.
What a joke.

As irritating as they and the show is, the spot where they went to get a tattoo was particularly annoying. I know nothing about tatts, but I would assume that your skin might be reddened or irritated by what must have been a good hour in the chair. Yet no redness or any type of swelling on 2 new tatts!

40k ffs BTW....

A fresh tattoo is like a graze, open flesh, swollen, sore, needs protecting, very sensitive.

How long before the team takes time off in the middle of an ultra urgent deadline to go clay pigeon shooting or some other ‘bonding’ past time? That is the norm in this sort of show.

It has been mentioned before that the overalls they wear are pristine when we all know anyone doing these builds would be covered in oil, dirt, dust and crap.

Phantom works' was on right after lasts nights "Monster Truck" episode (which I didn't watch) and the guys doing genuine mechanical work and fabrication were covered in anit and Dan had sweat pissing out of him.

I can't watch Goblin tossers anymore because it's an insult to my intelligence. It's clearly an insult to everyone else's on here too or this thread would have run to more than 9 pages being a 'car show' on a car forum. We are clearly not the target audience.

On the subject of the Capri, there was interesting info on another forum. It was bought for @ £20k off the floor at the NEC Classic ( it wasn't therefore purchased by some 'Rupert' for £40k, like any of us believed that ste anyway). There were receipts for the build showing what company's were actually involved confirming what we all know, it's just TV land nonsense with three hipster 'presenters' and style over substance.

Nit picking I know, but this sort of programme makes me do that. Why struggle (make a fake issue) to undo tight/rusted bolts when you have an impact wrench to hand? And sensible mechanics DON’T use a ratchet wrench to remove tight bolts. A breaker bar is the tool needed.

I agree entirely with everything said on this page.

As a long term Capri owner I hated the Capri Program.

I tried to watch the Apache with an open mind but hated that program too !

It's a ghastly reality show that only spends about 5% of the actual screen time doing anything car reflated.

I noticed that the 2 wheel drive monster truck had 85cm wheels. I thought metric wheels and tyres died out in the late 80’s?

"33 inch tires" smile roughly converted to metric (for no good reason, since it's not possible to buy "85 centimetre" tyres).

Tyre/tire/pneu/rifen/whatever... the diameter is always in inches (except those weird metric sizes as fitted to BMWs years ago).
