What did they do about the holes in the bodywork, did they just wrap over them and leave them?

I suspect they were wrapped along with all the rust. Would have been better left with the patina imo.

Yup!
I've now removed GWG from my scheduled recordings.

Wheeler Dealers did a similar job a while back. Wrapped a rusty Mini in carbon fibre effect film. They did repair an "A frame" though laugh

The best (or is that worst?) WD was Mike thinking an AMC Pacer would be a good buy, and then Ed spending a bloody fortune wrapping it in some glowing vinyl and wondering why no one wanted to buy it.....I think IIRC they struggled to even give the bloody thing away laugh

Mind you, the series was well and truly past its sell by date by the time they 'moved' the production over to the USA.

Yep - it was on the other week. £5k for that wrap (more than they paid for the car if I recall). Utterly insane.

The Volvo was the easiest assignment imaginable, but --------
The rock star customer specifically requested that it be painted in Volvo baby / light blue.
So they totally ignored his simple request and overlaid sparkling imitation rust on green ?
They decided it was necessary to travel to Sweden in order to find an engine tuner ( thought the presenter did that for a living )?
Engine tuner wanted to get rid of them and jokingly quoted £15K. Within seconds they agreed. Might have been cheaper at McLaren ?
Rock star looks horrified at the result, his glasses steam up but decides to buy the ancient Volvo for £ 26k after taking it to a drag strip.
At least he did get a Q car or whatever they call them now.
Complete and utter 100 % nonsense.

It always amuses me in the title sequence when the voiceover mentions how they've revived a 70yr old engineering firm...

I'm not sure but I assume the original Goblin Works interpretation of engineering wasn't three hipsters sitting around in a semi derelict industrial building spunking money on sub contracting work out to other companies at overinflated costs & then selling on their completed products to their mates! silly

Just listened to the cast of GWG interviewed on TST Podcast. My bullst meter was off the scale after the interview, which is what bought me to this thread. I'm glad I've found it, it will save me watching any of it.

From my experience a proper restoration / build takes a months, if not years to do right. Especially if you're building bespoke and not using parts kits.

Why can't one of the networks commission a proper build show? Bring back 'A Car is Born' !!

In one of the episodes of B*****n Rides / Kindig Design they go into some detail of the painting process. It isn't unusual for cars to spend 5 months being prepped and painted.

In fairness, the Fantomworks shows do put up a Day number during the show for each project, and some of there's certainly are in excess of 12 months...and 'bhin Rides' featuring Kindig It Customs, make frequent reference to the time it takes to do stuff like this.
Its the 'fake' stuff that likes to pretend it's all done in unfeasibly short times. Make many in the industry angry though, as I know a few people with build/restoration shops that are saying they are getting customers coming in expecting jobs done in silly timescales, quoting what they can do on these TV shows.
They promptly get told to take their projects to these people instead biggrin

Edit: can't believe the stupid swear filter has filtered out the name of a TV show, and forced it to lower case. rolleyes

I listened to it this morning, I've always struggled with the show and the builds they do but she came across really well, I've never warmed to the Spanish / Canadian / English guy on TV but he seemed good on the podcast, he was quick to say they were dating!! dropped right on there he has smile

Utter gash Goblinworks - seems like anyone with even basic hands on experience of working on cars couldn't fail to get incredibly irritated by this programme
