Interesting to hear about getting an insurance catagory reduced. But stolen recovered, engine and gearbox usually ragged to death or car stripped of wheels, interior, mechanicals. Wonder what Mr Dyte bought back from the insurance company.
My old housemate had his 205 (XS) broken into on our drive a few years before the GTi was said to have been nicked. Easiest way in was to peel back the upper part of the doors, typical French flimsy metal.

I noted the doors appeared a slightly different shade of white, I guess the insurance would have quoted 2 brand new doors, painted and fitted whereas you could probably have got a pair from the scrappy for less than £50 back then.

Back in 2003 I won a pair of doors for my mk1 Golf GTi for £5 on eBay.
For a 205 with glass sunroof, a stern thump with the fist in the right place used to release the catch, allowing access to the vehicle with no damage. Allegedly smile

Pritchard is such a pompous ass , "I had all the good ideas for this car "..914 .

The wheels ,because EVERY old Porsche HAS to have fake Fuchs Foosh wheels , although I quite liked the gold wheels the hub mod bloke was holding .
The bumpers , that's a no brainer ,the US federal impact bumpers are ugly as sin and the square front number plate looked very wrong .
The colour ,although I liked the metallic green ,there was obviously no way Paul's suggestion on 914 Magenta was going to happen as I'm Drew and what I says goes ,even if it is a 911 colour ! .
The fitted bags ,meh !
Let's buy a car with a knackered engine ,needing £4000 spending on it

Ah classic Drew - I am loathed to change the colour.. this green has more upmarket look to it and it's from a 911. To be fair it looked awful in white, the green was much nicer!

I'd have got some nicer looking wheels for it, those ones seemed a bit off to me (I know they were replicas etc) I'd have probably changed the steering wheel too, the original one was awful. I didn't like the luggage set either.

I liked how he said they'd got such a great car in the first place. The engine was knackered and the car need a full respray, no real rust though.

Overall though, I think it did look nice.

I was a little underwhelmed, but they did seem to have various machine tools so I presumed they knew how to use them. I was more surprised that they couldn't just source something from elsewhere in the range that already had the correct stud spacing. Similarly the brake discs, I'm surprised the conversion didn't find a way of using a disc that didn't need to be re-drilled every time the car needs new discs.

Late to the party on this one, only recently signed up to Discovery+ to watch the Ecclestone documentary.

Really trying to stick with it as there are some lovely cars being shown. But Drew is an absolutely nauseating .

Not my cup of tea, but it was a real improvement on what they originally bought.
Probably quite cool for zipping around Spanish villages which is what the bloke wanted.

I had an Apple Green 1600 GT Beetle years ago and loved it. smile

Not often I agree with Drew but that VW scene look was totally wrong on a Trekker.

Didn't think i would enjoy the Trekker/Thing episode, but was a good story in the end and a great save from what they purchased.

I put this show on a level pegging with WD and Car SOS, amusingly all 3 shows have a similar divisive character, just happy they exist.

I agree. Did Paul really like it or was that just a TV show thing?

I quite enjoyed the programme but it did seem to concentrate on only one or two issues to do with the restoration and then jump to the finish.

I must have watched a different show to you.
We had the guy making the duckboards, the skateboard gear lever bloke, the company making the side screens, the front axle conversion..... there was more going on in this episode than any other I can recall

Haven't watched last nights episode yet as I wanted to see who Newcastle were playing in the final but seems I missed one of the drearier episodes....

(Like the poster above, drilling hubs and discs seemed the wrong way to go about things on the 914 when there must be an alternative off the shelf in the huge range of Porsche vehicles from the last 60 years..)

I liked the Thing once it was finished & the gear knob and other bits, but not together. In my opinion, it wasn't the vehicle for those.

Considering the 914/6 uses 5 stud wheels it did seem madness to re-drill the hubs when off the shelf parts are available.

Enjoyed last nights episode but did not like the chosen colour when finished

Fair enough. For me, nothing seemed to happen at the back of the car but I guess they cant show everything. smile

That Thing, Trekker.
Have to agree with 'drew in that the "stance" is stupid as are the wheels but the rest, colour suits the car so I disagree with him and after that it's an ugly pig of a thing that makes the 2CV and a Series 1 Landy look sleek and stylish.
And the pair of them arguing is driving me mad.

Edit: Fekking duckboards! With all the crap falling through the gaps? What's wrong with rubber mats? And waste of money respraying green. Blue is a cal colour.

Edit2: The Beetle bloke Lee, his Trekker was the same blue....

Edit 3: Love the wood turning.
