3 Billboards outside ebbing Missouri
1/ a lot
Didn't get the film, horrendous ending. Absolute was of 2 hours.
perhaps your failing not the films then1/ a lot

It is a brilliant film however, in my opinion and in the opinion of pretty much everyone else on here and every critic and will win Oscars.
If I hadn't enjoyed such a highly rated film I would realise it was just not for me, not score it 1/10
I'll stick with my rating, even if it wasn't for me. Each to their own though.

I currently have Drive on my sky box, after an abortive attempt to watch it, I'm gonna give it a second chance. Gosling is usually a turn off for me on films, but I'm willing to give films multiple goes.
Drive is a great film, it's pretty dark, you need to watch it through to the end.Adam B said:
Not much to enlighten, its not a difficult plot - some films just don't click with some people.

It will be interesting to see how The Shape of Water is accepted by 'the masses'. At our Screen Unseen showing last month I'd say it divided the audience far more than Three Billboards the month before. Movies that hoover up award nominations to that extent are usually 'safe', so it's interesting that something a little more divisive has been so successful. I absolutely loved it and struggle to see anything being better this year, but at the same time I fully appreciate that it's really not for everyone.

Having seen The Shape of Water yesterday I thought it was an excellent film which I really enjoyed. However I can't see it making much of an impact on the mass market, and I think it is a much more difficult 'sell' than Three Billboards.I absolutely loved it and struggle to see anything being better this year, but at the same time I fully appreciate that it's really not for everyone.
Films I saw this week I do not recommend -
- Early Man - I love Aarman films, but this one is incredibly poor despite the star cast.
- The Post - Slow and dull with a very thin story
- The Commuter - Started off with an interesting premise, but dissolved into drivel.
I was quite impressed with The Shape of Water. Thought 3 Billboards was brilliant. But the movie of the last 12 months for me was easily “Call me by your name”. That was a masterpiece...and nobody has heard of it (still got Oscar Best Pic, Best Actor and Best Adaptated Screenplay nominations though).

"Beauty & the Beast in a bathtub" put that on the posters, job done! phazed said:
I will naturally reserve judgement till I have viewed it but given my like of the actors and the frailer, I am eagerly waiting for this to come round, (silly local flick has an abundance of, "50 shades of paint" on atm, why?).
if you like Coen brothers (esp Fargo) you will love itsc0tt said:
Really? I'd like to know what you enjoyed about it. I thought it was a poor plot and didn't really gain any momentum throughout and was left hanging to find out any of the small build up that progressed.

I generally like movies that are a bit different, and don't use the usual hero wronged, violence, pretty ending
I like movies where I am not sure how they will end, 90% of movies these days you know the ending 15 mins in
I loved the dark humour, and the film was very funny at times
I love a film with some complex characters - strong but with self-doubt, difficult, admirable but not especially likeable, no make-up - again a break from the normal handsome/beautiful lead
Frances McDormand and Sam Rockwell were excellent
Was great to see Rockwell's character develop and turn from dumb racist to his moment of realisation and then trying to do good (the only slightly Hollywood element)
Wonderful scenery
The ambiguity - it didn't dictate to you who to root for, and let you make up your own minds who was right and wrong
The ending frustrates some who want everything with a pretty bow on the end, it doesn't matter that we don't know how one plotline ends, that's real life, the characters are unsure too, the point is the mutual but awkward bond
People like different things, I would take issue (politely) with someone who found nothing good in that film, or just slagged it off because it was odd and didn't have a tidy ending. Better off sticking with DC/Marvel films and Liam Neeson. Each to their own - absolutely
Legend of the sword.
Arthur in Lock stock plus 300 style.
Not sure what I just watched. I think I sort of enjoyed it but not sure why.
Score was good so maybe it was that.
Probably need to watch it again but not sure I can.
I hope you enjoyed this helpful review. Something out of 10 is how it should probably be scored.

Remember
A drama thriller with a few nice plot twists. A dementia sufferer is given an envelope with some money and a letter in it. He keeps reading the letter and follows the instructions.
No spoliers, a very good watch. An 8/10 from me.
Thoroughly enjoyed that. Certainly didn't see the final twist, recommended.A drama thriller with a few nice plot twists. A dementia sufferer is given an envelope with some money and a letter in it. He keeps reading the letter and follows the instructions.

Had a scan through prime and Netflix this evening, generally, what a load of crap!
Colossal, Big Sick, Lion, Hell or High Water, Free Fire, Captain Fantastic and Your Name all added to Prime fairly recently. Amazon are fantastic at hoovering up the slightly less obvious but critically acclaimed stuff rather than the blockbusters that Sky pick up.Adam B said:

6/10.
It’s not bad, it just lacklustre. It’s got a decent premise, brilliant acting as ever from Denzel Washington but the story sort of runs out of stream about a 1/3rd of the way in and never recovers and then finishes, it doesn’t end, it just finishes.
I wondered if it was a true story so the director / writer was confined to the facts of the matter, but no.
