Just re-watched V for Vendetta after about a 6 year break. I've always rated it, but impressed at how much more relevant it has become for people in some parts of the globe in recent times. 10/10.

Lady Bird

Coming of age drama with Soarise Ronan terrific in the lead role but ably supported by a great cast. Not one dud performance. Smartly scripted and very believable. Solid 8.5/10 movie for me.

Calvary. I love the Guard, and felt slightly bored deflated by this, in comparison. I stiol watched it, because I'll watch Gleeson read sauce bottle labels, but felt something was lacking.

Birdman, expected a lot from this, found it also slightly boring, it picked up about halfway through but then dipped in and out of interesting, loved the good performances in performances though, reminded me of stuff.

This week?

Yogi Bear and Where Eagles Dare.

Yogi Bear was an inoffensive way to kill a couple of hours waiting for the Six Nations opener to come on. I knew what to expect, so wasn't disappointed when it delivered. Weird seeing the nasty dude out of The Flash doing a Mr Nice Guy role though...

Where Eagles Dare? I could watch that again and again and never tire of it. So long as you realise that it's not a "war film" but a "thriller" then you can't really fault it. It's a bit James Bond in terms of a ridiculously contrived storyline, but Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood really rescue what could have been a massive dud.

Broadsword calling Danny Boy... Broadsword calling Danny Boy...

Absolute classic film. yes

(Try to ignore the anachronism of the helicopter though).

I watched it last night on an odd freeview channel. I always remember the line "Strange, I ssseem to recall the cazino on ze other side of ze square"

It was our junior school Xmas film two years running then it was Guns of Navarone, which was not as good IMO

And Heidi, Alpine rose indeed cloud9

Yes, they did. But in very small numbers, and not until later in the war, and certainly not American helicopters. smile

Not anachronistic then, just incorrect design. tongue out

“Hell or High Water” last night.

Thoroughly enjoyed it. Great acting by all, good story line and kept me in my seat all the way through.

Jeff Bridges, always, “The Dude” for me smile

Loved the last bank job!

8/10 thanks for the recommendation.

I went to the London Premiere as a kid (I think I was about 10yo). And I saw it again (for about the 4th or 5th time) only about a month ago. And it’s one of those rare movies that still stands up today. Burton and Eastwood are terrific.

I watched two decent films over the weekend....

I, Tonya....about the Tonya Harding ice skating 'event' in the 90's, really entertaining, and Margot Robbie, what's not to like? 8/10

Suburbicon...Matt Damon, directed by George Clooney and involvement with the Coen Brothers, didn't know a single thing about the film before I started watching, again really enjoyed it, surprised me..8/10

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword

Wife's suggestion. Terrible. 2 hours of my life I'll never get back.

The new Jumanji film.

Maybe I'm wearing rose-tinted specs, but this new one wasn't a patch on the old one. As a standalone film it was pretty poor, not terrible, but just a bit lame. If I remember, the original was great!

Early Man.

Family outing to see this, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it - kids & adults - despite the massive fking expense.

Surprised by some of the iffy reviews - if you love Aardman you'll love this.

Interestingly my 9 year old who loves nearly every film was under whelmed by Early Man.

Rated it a 6/10. I can't add much more as I fell asleep smile

Lady Bird

Wasn't really sure what to expect prior to seeing it.

It was surprisingly brilliant and the lead actress deserves all of the plaudits being heaped upon her.

9/10.

Just finished watching the 4k HDR BR of the new Blade Runner film. I resisted the temptation to buy it from Amazon as I wanted to watch/hear it as it should be. It did not disappoint, we watched it at the cinema and I liked it then, but I enjoyed it much more upon this second viewing. This is a very rare film in this day and age, and to me, almost perfect.
