Just watched Den of Thieves.

No Oscars, but a good, solid 7.5/10 cops vs robbers flick. Enjoyed it.

Valhalla rising last night. Strange and sometimes eerie film, but a little bit flat come to think of it. Not much happening. In short, not unlike any other Winding Refn film. 6/10

The Greatest Showman

Mrs phazed fancied it and I'm easy, (well that's another story wink ).
We lasted about 20 minutes, just not our cup of tea I guess. I felt like spooling through the songs but that would be silly!

If I was trapped at the cinema, well I would have stayed and persevered but as we were at home and fancied a good film we bailed.

Randomly picked about 5 films on Netflix, jeez what a load of crap!

Settled on , The Foreigner. Seen it before, loved it the second time around. Mrs p was dubious but was engrossed from the start, probably our age as the IRA were in the news all the time in our youth.

I recall people complaining about Pierce Brosnans accent, why, it's a film and he was superb!

8/10

Atomic Blonde.

Not what I was expecting if you can ignore yet another 80lb woman kicking the loving shot out of 6 men at a time unarmed when they are ... luckily I can.

James mcavoy continues to be one of my favourite actors and he steals it, actually a pretty good story very well made and good filming ( apart from every person in London driving MGBs and XJSs )
8/10

Finally got round to watching 3 Billboards... last night and can now see what all the fuss was about. Great story, acting and cinematography. Still thinking about it now too which is always a good sign.

Watched El Faro de Las Orcas (Lighthouse of the Orcas), unsure if it is available on UK Netflix but it seems it is a Netflix production. Anyways, cinematography and soundtrack was marvellous! Story was ok enough and a nice touch that it was based on a true story.

Solo

Not too bad to be honest, I enjoyed it.

It was silly, but also quite fun. I think it works when it's a standalone Star Wars film, but not when it's one of the main ones, ie; The Last Jedi.

Saw this yesterday too. Dunno if it is just me but they seemed to overdo the action sequences. By that I mean they seemed to go on for a bit too long, then the non action stuff dragged too. By about half way through I was a bit bored with it all and not that fussed about it. Didn't help that the guy sat beside me (not the OH hehe) had the most hideous halitosis that was very distracting. hurl

Watched Logan Lucky.

A decent caper/heist movie. Bit formulaic but a decent couple of hours entertainment, although I didn't really understand the twist/reveal ending.
If you like Oceans 11, this is much the same

The Strangers, Prey at Night.

6/10.

Sadly can't hold a candle to the first one, which is probably the best scary film I've ever seen, this is more formulaic slasher.

It spent a decade in 'development hell' and it's a bit messy - it starts with a very 80s movie logo, features lots of 80s music, clothes and cars from the late 80s and early 90s so you might think it's set in that period... but oddly one of the minor plot points (which is largely pointless too) involves Smart Phones.

Got the impression cast members were killed off in order of their daily rate.

It's at least short at 90s mins or so, I don't mean that as in I couldn't wait for it to end, I really enjoyed it, but when most modern films have to be 150 mins plus is nice to have a snappy 'short' film again without the long boring middle act they all seem to have these days.

That the one-armed brother was constantly plagued by bad luck? Or the timeless tale of the cop who won't quit? It made perfect sense to me, a bit of a blank last page though I admit. But still, I enjoyed it as a movie smile

The Greasy Strangler, I've set this to record. It's on Film 4 on Saturday night. From what I've read about it (not watching any trailers) it's a very wrong comedy horror film, a bit Vic and Bob in style.
