Ghost Stories - good film. Reminded me a bit of Marabou Stork Nightmares by Irvine Welsh, although this one is, ahem, cosy-er. 6.5/10

KIngsman, just watched it, when it came out thought it wsn't my cup of tea...
oh my goodness, what an amazing film.
My favourite spy film I've seen since...not sure, Casino Royle maybe, maybe longer. It's probably what Bond should have been, or be.
From the opening shots where they used a song I had long thought of as a great accoutrement to an epic fight scene (I block it as I listen to it), to the first shots and incidental music used with the kid, I knew it was a good decision to tape it.
Got tired of the 'bruv' talk extremely quickly but fortunately that didn't last. Colin Firth was superb, and SLJ was the best bondspy baddie since Zorin, with an endgame that was a lil bit drax and a lil bit Cell.
Some excellent fight sequences, got a lil silly towards the end, reminded me of the original Casino Royle, but overall, a decent film, best spy film for yonks.

The humanity bureau.
Absolutely diabolical, it can only be described as another Cage special.
Can't believe I sat down and watched the whole thing.

I thought it was rather weak myself.

It's ironic that Jeremy Renner has come closer to killing off Jason Bourne than any of the antagonists have. smile
I had to put the fact that it was supposed to be a 'Bourne' film to one side. I thought the action sequences were good and Renner made a pretty good fist of all the fight and action scenes. It should have had a more fleshed out bad guy than the chinese assassin though, and the ending could have been stronger. But, overall, I enjoyed it.

I especially like the house fight near the start

Despite the, frankly, unbelievable plot we found this film totally engrossing. Michael Douglas is at his best and has the majority of screen time in this pacey and sometimes violent adventure with its strange and seemingly unending twists and turns. Is it a dream? Is anyone what they seem to be or are they in on the conspiracy? Best thing we've watched in a while.
Brilliant film.

''Calibre'' on Netflix

Absolute belter of a film. Plenty of edge-of-the-seat moments and seriously believable.

I've spent a lot of time up in that part of Scotland and the Locals, whilst mostly very welcoming and polite, are not to be messed around with. Hard bunch.

3/10.

Is it *cough* scary? I generally avoid watching ghost movies etc after requiring counselling post Blair Witch. Is Ghost stories likely to send me back into therapy?

The mountain between us — on Sky.

A film with idris Elba and Kate winslet about passengers in a light plane which crashes in snowy mountains. Absolute rubbish.

Elba’s agent should be sacked given some of the rubbish he’s been in.

Winslet is always guaranteed to annoy me with her “look at me acting” style and inability to create a believable character. She’s your girl for meaningful looks and sighs and the odd concerned face.

As usual Winslet didn’t let me down Intensely annoying. The dog was a better actor.

Another hour and a half I’ll never get back.

Score 1 meaningful look out of 8 concerned faces.

Mission Impossible: something - Tom Cruise and crew doing their thing. It's okay, lots of set pieces and stunts as you expect, it is quite long and convoluted so at times I was confused and at others a bit bored despite the music telling me it was all exciting. There is a good twist at the end though(*), so 6/10.

* No there isn't. You could tell me what happens right now.

Beirut / The Negotiator

Beirut, also known as The Negotiator in the UK. A former U.S. diplomat who returns to service in Beirut in order to save a colleague from the group responsible for the death of his family. Jon Hamm is terrific in the lead role, ably backed by the dependable Rosamund Pike and solid supporting cast.

Really enjoyed this 7.5/10.

Had me in all the way up to the ridiculously unbelievable ending.....which ruined the whole movie for me.

Tomb Raider (2018)

I am not even close to being a fan of Angelina Jolie but her two films were vastly better than this rubbish.
The lead actress has zero personality so,halfway through, you don't really care what the hell happens to her. The storyline is weak and it was just so damned uninteresting...I'm trying to recall how it ended, even now, 22 hours later.

2/10
Ironically that probably why she was perfect to play Ava in Ex Machina.

I really like the Angelina Jolie films, the first more so. They were fun films and not to be taken too seriously and they were great at that.
Personal taste I guess, the story was just as weak as the old ones but I thought she played a more believable, less artificial Lara Croft than I remember from the Angelina Jolie films (which I haven't seen in a long time to be fair, they were never good enough to feel like repeat viewing).
