Shin Godzilla - made purely for a Japanese audience and is 90% politicians and scientists sitting around talking. Sounds insanely dull but was actually really good, moving at a fast pace and focusing on the squabbles and confusion that would actually take place should a giant monster show up and start destroying the city. Godzilla himself looks a bit comical in his initial form, but grows to be suitable menacing by the end. I still prefer the recent American version, but this was a good companion to it.
I caught this at the cinema. One woman was in fits of hysterical laughter when the sock puppet young Godzilla came on screen. Some parts were good but the effects were terrible making a mockery of any serious intentions. The Wife
Behind any great man, there’s always a greater woman. Joan Castleman (Glenn Close) has spent forty years sacrificing her own talent, dreams and ambition to support her charismatic, philandering husband Joe (Jonathan Pryce) and his brilliant literary career. Their faithful pact reaches breaking point on the eve of his being awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature.
Excellent performances all round. Great to see Christian Slater in a small but important role again too.
Really enjoyed this. 8.5/10

Well cast silliness... a reminder for all of us from the Porky's generation that fun used to be a real thing that we were allowed to do. The closing credits more than make up for some of the less satisfying scenes in the film itself.
Brain out TV.
3.2 brain cells short of a picnic (i.e. 6.8)

I caught Isle of dogs on a flight last week. Thought it was a great way to pass the time at 35,000 ft.
Slightly off-topic inasmuch as it is not a film I have watched, but the retrospective of Howard the Duck on Den of Geek actually makes me want to watch it.
Since I don't have Netflix, I'll have to wait for it to show up on Amazon Prime Video.

Antman and the wasp...too many product placements
Intrigued, which ones specifically bothered you?I know they had a deal with Dell but it was barely noticeable in the movie, the only obvious one to me was Hyundai, but the fact that a cartoonish Hot Wheels car happened to have the H logo on it didn't bother me, despite it being quite in your face. Pez (if indeed that was traditional product placement) worked naturally in the context of the movie.

I wonder if they'll retcon it into the mcu. Since I don't have Netflix, I'll have to wait for it to show up on Amazon Prime Video.
