Three Billboards
I'll echo what others have said, it's brilliant.
It's a Coen brothers movie tribute. Hasn't anyone watched Fargo? or No Country for Old Men? It's almost as if the writer has taken the character of the embittered by time and weary old sheriff from NCfOM and thought "I know, let's create a similar character but one that bites back". Having said that the first 2/3 is good in a Fargo type way, but the film flounders in the last 3rd, badly.I'll echo what others have said, it's brilliant.

The Cloverfield Paradox on Netflix. Urgh, a cheaply produced movie and so much is lifted from other great films we turned it off half way through.
Score for both 1/10
I'm going to watch it tonight. Wiki reckons it had a budget of $40M!Score for both 1/10
Given the last straight to Netflix release that I can remember was The Circle, my expectations are low.
The Greatest Showman
I'm a sucker for a good musical, and enjoyed this a lot. The songs are catchy and moving, and the production and dance numbers are suitably sumptuous. What lets the film down a little is the weak narrative between the songs. It's good enough for a stage musical, but not really for a movie. With a little bit more work on the story, this would have been a 10/10 for me. As it is,I'll give it a...

Apocalypto 2006 (on Amazon Prime)
A brutal thrill ride from start to finish. I've had this on DVD for years, but for some reason I've never watched it, until now. Finishes with one of the longest and most tense chase scenes committed to film.
A big recommendation from me, but not for the faint-hearted.

Last night I watched 13 hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi. For a Michael Bay film, it was thoroughly watchable and not over the top at all. Reminded me of Black Hawk Down, but weirdly it was neither as overall stylish, nor as stomach wrenchingly terrifying.
However - a good story well told. I am also looking fwd to Horse Soldiers.

The Greatest Showman
I loved it. Brilliant music, and an enjoyable (but perhaps factually simplified) plot.
Critics don't think much of it. Once again their views contrast with the audience, much like their reviews of The Last Jedi, The Orville and Star Trek Dicovery.
Critics can fk off
We watched this on Friday evening and I came away with mixed feelings about it - I can see why the critics didn't like it though...I loved it. Brilliant music, and an enjoyable (but perhaps factually simplified) plot.

The story seemed to go from set piece to set piece with clunky links between them, the boy being slapped seemed unnecessary (and I really didn't see it coming), the "race" sub plot didn't seem like it was needed at all, there were gaps in the story that could have been better filled - Ultimately, it felt like the film was intentionally shortened and there were some plotlines that could and should have been built on/developed. (That and the fact he went broke over the Jenny Lind thing was the opposite to what happened in real life - if I've read it properly).
That said, the opening sequence was brilliant and the set pieces were, for the most part, brilliant - There was a scene where He goes off in a carriage with his kids chasing after it which made my partner cry.
Towards the end of the film, Hugh Jackman sounded very much like he did in Les Mis which was a bit odd as it wasn't how he sounded at the start of the film - Unless this was deliberate...
I'd give it an 8/10

Just saw the official trailer and believe I watched the film, (such are trailers nowadays!)!I'd give it an 8/10
I'm sure that Mrs phazed will love this so will give it a whirl later this week.

Oh, don't forget that Vue are doing £4.99 for all films.... Yep ALL films - I opted to NOT go to Cineworld at £11.70 each ticket. Madness...

Not posted for a while but have been following closely...
V for Vendetta
First time of watching, thought it was brilliant. Could be a 'classic', Portman again very good.
Rating: V / VI
Downsizing
Started off alright but went on too long and a bit stupid - even though we knew what the premise was before we watched.
Rating: Pi / 12
Se7en
Brilliant. And I may be biased as I think Spacey is quality. Again, a real classic imo.

Collosal on Amazon Video
I initially watched the trailer - which seemed to have nothing in common with the description. But decided to give it a go anyway.
It was actually a pretty good film. The monster part was certainly a bit left field - but it was tied in very well to a spurned wannabe boyfriend and that story / the acting etc was pretty good.
It was one of those films where you should have thought : Why on earth are there monsters in it? That makes no sense!
But in fact, all worked surprisingly well.

I think Netflix should be careful with this sort of thing - they're in the process of evolving from - Movie Streamer to 'network' in their own right and now into something all together new.
I don't think they should risk their goodwill with customers by slapping 'Netflix Original' onto some crap Hollywood film that the distributors got cold feet with - they don't want 'Straight to Netflix' to become the new 'Straight to DVD' badge.
Most of their self-produced stuff is very good, it might not be to the customers exact taste, but it's still generally good.
