had the misfortune to waste 2 hours of my life on "Knowing" over the weekend.

the premise is really good, a time capsule holding a document that details world wide tragedies and the no. of casualties, and yet the ones that happen next just happen to be in the vicinity of where nic cage lives and works....

its falls apart into a mess to be honest - its part sci fi, part teccie drama and molded in the middle is some pseudo emotion around family...it falls apart and by the end where Everyone Else apart from the chosen ones are being nicely deep fried I couldn't have cared less.

apart from Rose Byrne of course who is cloud9

started to watch Kingdom of Heaven last night but as it wasn't the directors' cut I gave up after about an hour. The theatrical release is such a poorer relative of the DC - which is the film Scott wanted to make.

So, you had fair warning then? wink

Until Nic Cage gets the IRS off his back, I've boycotted any film with him in.

He hasn't stared in anything decent since 2005 (Lord of War) IMHO.

Wonder

Story about a kid with facial differences, good cast and strong acting from Julia Roberts and dare I say it Owen Wilson. Jacob Tremblay that played August was superb. Bit of a tear jerker but the Mrs will love you for it.

The moment the appears in the cast it’s an immediate “red flag” for me!

The Greatest Showman

I'm a sucker for a good musical, and enjoyed this a lot. The songs are catchy and moving, and the production and dance numbers are suitably sumptuous. What lets the film down a little is the weak narrative between the songs. It's good enough for a stage musical, but not really for a movie. With a little bit more work on the story, this would have been a 10/10 for me. As it is,I'll give it a...

Not seen it, but it's one of the few films to do better in subsequent weeks, word of mouth I guess.

The Neon Demon 2016 (on Netflix)

Bat st crazy and shocking art house movie about the modelling world and nature of beauty by Nicholas Winding Refn, the director of Bronson, Drive, and Only God Forgives.

You will love this or hate it, depending on your tolerance of pretentiousness and how film buffy you are.

I am still thinking about it, so 8/10.

We watched two films last night, that I bought on Amazon.

Happy Death day - I thought this was a horror, but was more like a thriller Groundhog Day, and we both really enjoyed it, quite funny in parts, but worked very well I thought.

Geostorm - I should have learned my lesson with the unwatchable Transformers Last knight movie, but I bought it anyway thinking how bad can it really be, I like good SFX and end of the world type scenarios.

It was terrible (but not the last Transformers level of terrible), we made it to the end (well, I did, my wife was asleep...), but not a film I would ever watch again freely.

Fury on Netflix, incredible film in every regard. It really does bring home the futility of war and I found it quite sobering to think of all the lives lost during the period. A must see if you have an interest in war epics.

There are at least 2 films, set on a train, about a murder, that go by that title. Which one did you see?

Den of Thieves. Hmmmm, tries hard to be Heat with a fairly obvious twist. Worth watching for the shootouts, but badly let down by the accents at the end.

Just got home from watching The Mercy starring Colin Firth and Rachel Weisz. It's about the true story of amateur yachtsman Donald Crowhurst who took part in the 1968 Sunday Times Solo Around The World Yacht Race. Great performances from the two main actors. 7/10 for me on this one.
