With the series reboot in 2008 with Rambo, the all out nihilistic violence could be Stallone making a commentary against Burma OR other human rights abuses. Or.... it could be a reaction against the dumbing down of action moves / Marvel-isation of cinema. I guess consumer tastes have changed, you don't need 80, 90s style ultra violent movies when you can boot up Call of Duty at home - so cinema has become happy clappy. Dark films are very few and far between these days, but Rambo stands alone for being properly bleak compared to say the Expendables that comes 2 years later.
Did you know that Sly is making Rambo 5?

Yep, in for it. Cartel violence. The scope for decapitations is immense.

Finally got round to watching Gone Girl.

On the surface a decent film, but so many plot holes which when you think about them, kind of spoils it.

6/10

Also watched the Secret life of Walter Mitty.

Just a great movie with stunning scenery and fantastic soundtrack.

9/10

THe new one with Stiller? I thought it would be a rubbish remake, but it had enough charm of it's own I think not to be compared too unfavourably to the old one.

Plot holes is the wrong term I suppose. You just have to suspend belief for it to work. It's all a bit of a stretch especially after she gets robbed and hooks up with the stalker. Far too many opportunities for her story to be challenged but they all give up.

Yes the Ben Stiller film.

I was surprised how good it was.

I've been looking for other youtubers to prop up my current film lot (first tier; GRace, RLM, Georg. 2nd tier; Rossatron, Mauler) and I came across this guy, I hate everything,he has a pretty boring delivery but I watched one video and saw a superhero film I'd neverheard of, it's awful, from 2017.
video starts at the point he chats about it.

couple watched thsi week:

American Animals
True story about 3 college students planning to rob their college of a valuable book, interesting premise and includes flash interviews with the real people involved. I enjoyed this, it was original in that the criminals/heroes were flawed and inept, and the actual robbery scene was truly tense - mainly as it was realistic and not all CGI and explosions. Some funny moments, its low-key but feels authentic which is unusual these days.
7/10

BlacKKKlansman
Hmmmm, a Spike Lee again based on true events of a black cop infiltrating the KKK, a quality production and funny at times but in places it falls into worthy but dull category. The ending though is truly shocking and impactful. Oh and those signature Lee dolly shots are just annoying now 7/10

'Reprisal' starring Bruce Willis. OK there was a lot of 'action' but when the running time is a little over 90mins you know it's not going to be up to much.

Me too, was expecting some forgettable by-the-numbers Hollywood comedy and it was a really nice surprise right from the opening credits. It really tickled the travel bug in me. smile

tbh the whole film was rather 'meh'.

To quote Blackadder, "Well it started badly, it tailed off a little in the middle, and the less said about the end the better. But apart from that, excellent."

Kingsman the golden circle.

Nowhere near as good as the first, and I wouldn't watch it again because it was really kinda rubbish, but for some reason I enjoyed it.

Django Unchained. Don’t think I’ve seen a film that has ‘n****r’ and ‘mother****r’ used so much throughout. Thought Leonardo di Caprio and Samuel L Jackson absolutely stole the entire film.

2 fast 2 furious - yes it's st, and yet I do like it. The challenger and yenko Camaro getting wrecked made me want to cry though!

The mechanic 3. Another cap film but enjoyable non-the-less

King of Thieves

Stellar cast but felt amazingly cheap, some truly weird/pointless scenes and strange cuts back to archive footage. The score/soundtrack was probably the worst I've ever experienced in a film, so jarring.

The term 'TV movie' doesn't really work any more as production values are through the roof, but this felt like a cheap made for TV drama.

My 60th film at the cinema this year and this would be in the bottom two alongside Solo.

I saw the trailer for King of Thieves and didn't think it looked any better than the low rent film 'The Hatton Garden Job' that came out last year:
