Indeed. Like him a lot. Watch "Moon"...it's superb.

Apocalypto 2006 (on Amazon Prime)

A brutal thrill ride from start to finish. I've had this on DVD for years, but for some reason I've never watched it, until now. Finishes with one of the longest and most tense chase scenes committed to film.

A big recommendation from me, but not for the faint-hearted.

10/10
Another I agree on.

I avoided watching this as it seemed to be released when Gibson was on full mental. Can't recall what prompted me to watch it one evening, but bloody hell is it good. Bought the DVD so I could watch it on demand.

Watched Wind River last night. Really liked that. Good character development, felt very sympathetic. Bit of a "bugger me we've not started the ending yet" ending. But really enjoyed the film. I can take or leave Renner, but he was good in it.
Moon is a fantastic film directed by Bowie's son. Shame about the robot though!

Wrong Turn at Tahoe 2009

A modern / violent gangster film with the ever reliable Harvey Keitel who is the boss of bosses in his local drug pool and clashes with another guy who has inadvertently killed one of his 'salesman' a step or two down the ladder. Actually deliberately killed with a baseball bat but as the story goes...
For me a solid 7/10

For movie buffs...
I wanted to mention the Frog and Scorpion story which I first heard in 'Ryan Gosling's Drive', but also features in this film and has much more relevance and plays out right at the end.
That story seems to have been used a few times in recent years. Sexykiller (2008 Spanish comedy horror) used it at the end too in a relevant way. (Worth a watch, the Wiki/IMDB summary covers 1% of it)

The obviously talented Mr Jones Has just done a new movie called “Mute” for Netflix set in a “Blade Runnerish looking” Berlin. Looks interesting. Agree that Moon was both original and very well done.

Our Kind of Traitor, classic spy film based on le Carre story, some big names in it, a bit boring in parts, missing something but I wanted to know how it finished.

Jack Reacher, don't like Tom Cruise or To Cruise films but I love this. Great fights and story, and set-up.

Black Panther. Marvel does the Lion King, sort of. It's a comic book film, so more about the visuals than character depth, the final battle is pretty predictable, and it's probably a little too long. Better than average. 7/10.
Has Hollywood run out of American actors or something?
Why has Martin Freeman been cast to play an american accented CIA agent?

That is a good question. But Brit and Aussie actors seem to be taking Hollywood by storm.

Agreed, it's one of those films I bought on Blu Ray so i can chuck it on whenever I want.

Funnily enough i was thinking about it the other day as apparently Netflix are about to release a 'spiritual sequel' - Mute

CHIPS. Along with Baywatch that I saw a week or so ago I can’t see why they went with a film where the f-word seemed to be every other word. Both were early evening Saturday night family shows so it seems strange to make films based on those shows littered with swearing from start to finish.

Shame really because both had plenty of laugh out loud bits in them but were completely spoilt for me with the completely out of context swearing. Having said that Michael Pena and The Rock are always good value and although neither had much of a story there was enough to keep you watching, especially CJ in Baywatch...

Just had our annual trip to California, so had a chance to catch up on a film or 7. In order of preference (mostly):

Blade Runner 2048 - Wow, just wow. Best new film I have seen in years, built on the first one magnificently, great atmosphere. Loved it - 10/10.

Three Billboards - I can definitely see what the fuss is about, great performances from everyone, nice dark humour, and the usual midget. Ending was a bit rubbish, but otherwise top notch - 9/10.

The Big Short - Finally got round to watching this, and my my, our friends on Wall Street did get themselves into a right pickle around these CDO's. Thought it was fairly even handed in dealing with the crisis (pointing out it was caused by a good idea gone bad) and some great performances. Loses a point for the Jenga pitch being used in every Sales Training session I've ever been in - 8/10.

Kingsman - The Golden Circle - Nowhere near as good as the first, but still enjoyable amusing brain out fodder. Disbelief has to be suspended at the opening credits, but otherwise liked it. Loved the ski-lift chase and the Country Roads scene, rest was quite average. 7/10.

King Arthur - what the fk was that all about? Usual Guy Ritchie slick-fest, but the knights of the round table were cockneys? Really Guy? Didn't make the end as we landed in LA, but I have very little urge to watch the rest - 5/10.

Blade Runner - never seen the original cinema release, but they had this on the plane so I thought I'd give it a go. Um, I can see why they ditched the voiceover - Ford sounds utterly disinterested and half the time it just make me think of a Frank Drebin voice-over from Police Squad!. Not a huge fan, think I'll stick to the Director's Cut - 6/10

THat part (most likely) will have been filmed mostly in the UK>.MF does have a name in the US now hough, thanks to Fargo
It depends, local actors are used for a lot of Marvel films.

Thor Ragnorok

I was convinced I'd love this, as I do like the first Thor movie and the first GOTG, and these are the only Marvel films I have watched more than once (oh, and the original Iron Man). In fact, I was so sure I'd love it, I pre-ordered the 4k BR.

This was cancelled after watching it, though (I bought the SD version on Amazon, no point with HD as our internet cannot cope). Like GOTG 2, I just didn't like it. Again, like GOTG 2, the colours were way too saturated, the CGI in some areas was not convincing (same problem Wonder Woman, are they cutting corners and hoping no-one notices, or is it an intentional artistic thing to make it look more cartoony)?

I thought the two female leads worked well, though, especially the Valkyrie.

I do try to like these Marvel movies, as everyone else seems to, so I must be missing something, but it seems it is the same thing over and over again. But then again, what else could they be.

Blade Runner on DVD : 2/5

Hugely disappointed, Another franchise ruined. It is not even close to the brilliance of the original, awful dialogue meant I needed to put on subtitles and most of it still didn't make any sense. The story is full of plot holes leaping from one scene to the next with sense of no continuity. The stunning atmospheric visuals don't make up lack of story telling.

Started watching Thor:Ragnarok last night - I was full of excitement at the film as I'm a Marvel fan, but I found it really painful: It was slow, weird, uninteresting, the acting suspect, the humour generally rubbish, the action poor and the film overall was fairly boring as it just didn't seem to work.

ETA: I do enjoy Karl Urban and Jeff Goldblum in films - Just not this film. They were really, really poor.

I switched off after an hour - I dread to think what the second hour was like, but it just didn't work very well for me.

A very poor 2/10

Watched Turbo Kid last night, crazy 80's styled comic book comedy adventure, I loved it, OTT gore but it was done in a way that it was just hilarious, and the girl 'Apple' is completely adorable in it.

8/10

Are you sure you bought the right film, and not one of those SyFy soundysamey films?

Seriously though, pop over to the thread about the film - chances are you missed something / misunderstood something, as there aren't that many plot holes, and the film is extremely sympathetic, if not reverential, towards the original.

I guess it just isn’t everyone’s cup of tea.

I enjoyed it but wouldn’t rave about it.

I am watching Fargo series 3 at the moment, more enjoyable than Blade Runner imo.

There are lot gaping plot holes, I can't go into too much detail without spoilers, but his investigation was a nonsense with no sensible link between the clue and the next scene/step in his investigation. He repeatedly made leaps in his investigation that were not supported by things he knew.

The whole orphanage narrative was completely broken, as it the the whole real/fake memory thing and test. The outcome of his boss, and the non-miracle miracle. By continuously resorting to deux machina it failed big time. I got the point with the 4th wall thing and the dog, it made me think the flaws would all be cleverly cleared up. They were not, which probably increased my disappointment. It seemed to fall into the action genre at the end to distract from those flaws.
